went to wire my SS FTC and found something weird

:
2003 Protege ES-T
so i wired my FTC1 today and i noticed some thick grey jacketed wires spliced into some of the wires going to the ECU. one into the O2 sensor wire, pink/blue, and another into i think it was pink/ green. both also had a second wire coming out of each of them going to a common black/grey. another thicker grey jacketed wire was spliced into the crank position sensor wires, with i think a common ground as well. it was ******* weird.

i pulled back the tape a little bit on one of them and the wires were just twisted together. i dunno what the ****** deal is. no idea if it's stock or the douchebag owner before me did it. i left them alone because they were inside the main harness all the way through to the engine bay before i lost them, which makes me think they could have been factory. but why not solder the connections? and what the ****?

anyone else have any insight?

It might be a O2 Simulator as well....TO eliminate CEL's....I would have to see it.

Pics?

there are splices there from factory. they should be soldered though, mine werent either. I have them on my 02 wire and im the only owner.

so id say its normal. if the are just twisted you might want to solder the splices. Im not sure what they are for but id imagine its something to do with needing the signal for an auxiliary device. might be something they added for the msp cause of the boost or something. i dunno.

yeah i thought it was pretty weird.

i didn't get any pics because i was in a bit of of a hurry and just wanted to button everything back up. next weekend when i wire my LC1 i'll prolly have to get in there again.

another thing that makes me think it's stock is the wires dissapear from the harness after the splice. just the grey jacketed wires going through the firewall. maybe they are shielded wires to reduce noise? would explain the random ground wires
