Well me my fiance', and my son all went down to seminole fl on tuesday well midnight on monday and heres what i ended up with. 256 miles @ 65-85mph with a/c set on 72 degrees only used half a tank of gas! thats 32 mpg. I think alot of it has to do with the absolute absence of any traffic whatsoever and it was 75 degrees that night compared to the usual 90s during the day. but i was quite pleased. Just thought i'd share.

Mmmm!!

Hi,

That equates to 37+ miles per imperial Gallon this side of the pond! Thats good mileage, did you consider sitting in behind a big 18 wheeler to reduce drag, could have possibly got 35.
Rarely use the AC here in Ireland (no reason too, its cold) Im getting 27mpg (23mpg US Gallon) normal driving (mostly motorway) sucks compared to my previous diesel 50+mpg but more fun!

Rgds

Yeah, subspeed6 netted the same highway MPGs driving on a conserve driving profile (easy acceleration, stay off the boost, ~70 mph, etc.) on the drive back from Watkins Glen last year.

Hell, he did better than my measly 28 MPG.

this seems promising as im about to go to myrtle beach from rhode island in a few weeks..leaving at 3 am..i should only have to fill up 2 maybe 3 times according to my math on the way thier thats awesome.

I did NJ to Myrtle Beach driving all through the night. What a blast. NO traffic whatsoever. I was driving my dad's F150, so I just set the cruise at 72 and didnt have to worry about a thing.

(first)wow 8 gallons for 260 miles...(cabpatch)(yippy)(2thumbs) with a tank of 15.9 that would be 518 i wouldnt recommend letting your tank get that low but thats just amazing.

yea i don;t let my tank get low, i treat half as empty, just habit i picked up after driving my blazer that would go from half to empty in like 25 miles. bad fuel level sensor let it stay at half ALOT longer than it should have.

Just an FYI, when you go over 75 the car starts to eat a lot more gas. My ScanGauge says between 60-75 the car is using around 3-3.5 gph, but from 75 to 85 it suddenly jumps to 4.25-4.75. This is to maintain a constant speed (using cruise control). I'm guessing aerodynamics has a big part to play in this, but staying under 75 is a good idea if gas milage is more important than speed.

it probably averaged out to be about that with 301 and all. (its a road in here in fl that goes from 30-35-45-55-65-45-65-35-, you get the idea, its up and down speed limits and the police are really strict so it is a pita.

Most definitely. Staying in the 65-70mph range is the best way to get over 30mpg regularly on long highway trips. I've taken my Speed 6 from PA to Florida twice now, and just set cruise on 70 and I get 30mpg without a problem. I even tried a tank at 60-65mph, (I admit it was manipulated) which was grueling and got 34+mpg. Then I said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and set it at about 78-80mph on last tank, and plummeted quickly into the 20s. Steady roads, no hills, and constant speed, and yeah a big rig in front of you helps. :)
