I drive a caution cone
I just broke in the car and decided to open her up a bit. I noticed a loud high screeching noise from the front. Its definitly not a turbine noise, does anyone have this too?? also what could it be??

I posted something about a similar noise last weeks. My noise happened I think when I was in 2nd or 3rd 3000-3500rpms. The turbo went from it's normal whine to a howl. I don't know if it's normal but the car seems to be just fine to me. Since this is my first turbo car I don't know what tell you, but I know when I let my foot off the gas and begin to slow down the noise goes away, it is only when I am boosting that I will get the noise, which leads me to believe it's turbo noise, I still don't know if it's normal or not.

im not turbo, but the last noise my car made above 4k got my motor replaced.

apparently this is normal for our car and turbo. everyone has it. it's a high pitched screech right? some say it's oil starvation....but on every car? there's no way you can really screw up an oil line....mazda's not that dumb.

its like a metal screeching sound. I've owned a turbo car before and never made that noise.

Stop worrying about the sound & enjoy it...I think anyone can tell you that high pitched whine is because of the BB turbo.

uhm.... my friend owns a 240sx with a ball bearing t4. It doens't make that sound. its definitly not a normal noise.

My car has random moments where the turbo goes super loud. It sounds like the same noise it always makes, just a little amplified (sounds tight). Never noticed any problem when it happens though.

You can't just compare a 240 with a non-factory engine to the MSP. Trust me, IT'S NORMAL.;)

I do, sounds like a rotational grinding of some sort. The first time I heard it I thought it was oil starvation, and then I heard of others who said the same thing. It does not sound normal to me.

EDIT: It's only on the highway above like 80 though, not just at high rpms.

OK, you guys need to take a ride in my car with the AC off, windows down, & stereo off (how I usually drive). It's a loud whistle sound & I know mine is the turbo. If there is any way I could record it, I would. If I'm not understanding you & you're talking about something completely different, then I don't know. Mine starts quietly at 4k but gets really loud at 5 & goes to redline.

Nope got the whistle too and that sounds normal to me. But the noise I'm talking about (and autoxmsp as well) sounds like a metal grinding wheel, real inconsistent too.

Like I said, its the design of the turbo. My turbo makes it, and there have been other threads about it. It is NOT oil starvation, at least i highly doubt it is, and if it was, everyones turbo would blow up by 1000 miles... its NOTHING to worry about. :)
