(rant)Well.... how do i start off

Yesturday a truck took out a power line in the parking lot of my workplace. The power line exploded and sprayed hot metal all over a few cars in the parking lot and one happend to be mine. I have 3 chipped windows and metal shards all over my car. I can see actual burn marks on the windows but nothing on the paint. Not sure if it melted the clear coat on the paint or not, but the companies insurance said they will be taking care of all the cars that were affected. The security guard who was out there wrote down Paint/Window damage for my car. I really dont like the idea of having the car repainted since it was purchased only a week ago. Should i try to make them get me a new one instead of whatever it is they offer? i have 700 miles as of right now...

since it's just cosmetic, there shouldnt be anything wrong with repainting it. the car is a week old, so its not like theres gonna be any fade or sunspotting in the paint. as long as they use the same color mazda did and make sure to prep out any deeper wounds caused by the hot metal, theres no reason to try and bargain a new car out of it... i really doubt you'd ever be able to justify it anyway.

look on the bright side... maybe you'll be able to get a nice hard clear coat on the new paint job instead of the butter-soft coat it came with.

ps - that definitely does suck tho. i'd be pretty livid if anything happened to mine, so hopefully whatever happens, it ends up good as new in the end.

I mean i know i probably wont get a new car out of it but seriously to have my car repainted at 700 miles and a week old....little ridiculous

My car is in the booth right now at just under 6,000 miles to repaint my rear quarter pannel. Not going into it but it involved a nagging fiance, alcohol, ego, and the side of a garage door.

My aunt got stuck in a hail storm on the way home from the dealership a few years ago with her new volvo. Needless to say, the car was totalled...

Just keep in mind, it could have been worse. A driver dumb enough to knock out a telephone pole could have just as easily hit and run your parked car. Good luck with everything!

Yeah, that does blow. Just make sure to check their work if you need to have it repainted. Would this get reported to carfax?

Sorry to hear about this man. I was very upset yesterday when something happened to my car (some bad roadwork in progress littered my car with tar) so I can't imagine how you could have felt when you realized what happened to your car.

Still, at least it wasn't a "hit and run", or the whole damned post didn't collapse and hit your car. As long as you make sure you get a good paint job done, you'll get your car looking as good as new for a little while longer :)

Good luck!

It does suck for sure but no Commercial Insurance carrier is going to buy you a new car to repair paint damage. Just maybe you'll end up with an even better paint job! You know, one that won't be so susceptible to chips like oem. Choose your shop wisely.

weak. 600 miles, car next to me caught on fire in a parking garage. $5,000 in damage, their ins co claimed "act of god" so i had to file it on my insurance. still waiting for subrogation to complete so i get my deductible back

Wow, that sucks about both the telephone pole and the car fire. Funny what insurance companies will claim sometimes so they don't have to pay, and actually get away with it.

Yeah, they sure don't have a problem cashing your monthly payment checks.

Agree with everything that has been stated. Don't worry, repaing and try to get someone you trust or is a credible auto shop with obviously mazda paint. And you are good. My ms3 suffered from over spray from idiots painting a house next door. All over the car, hood, roof, back, doors, headlights...it was incredible. You will be alright, andplus you aint going to get a new speed... So you can throw away that idea..
