Educational Links
http://www.autopia.org/publish/categ...-To-Detailing/ - Autopia. This is a link to several articles covering a broad spectrum of detailing tasks. Very good place to start for a newb looking for technique help. Wash, clay, polish, wax/seal, trim, engine, swirls, etc...

http://www.autopia.org/publish/categ...Finish-Repair/ Another by Autopia covering finish repair.

http://www.carcareonline.com/howto.aspx - Car Care Specialties. These are by Larry Reynolds. Very informative stuff here. Covers things from washing, engine, wheels, chip repair, leather, trim etc...Good technique and good products.

http://www.1car-detailing-training.com/articles.php - This is Kevin Ferrell's article section of his company, Kleen Car Auto Appearance. Some of these may be far more in depth than you may even need or want. But they are very informative. I just linked the articles page because it would be very hard to wade through and pick just the ones I think pertinent. He covers just about everything. Glass cleaning all the way to full wet sand and buff. Some of this is more geared to the professional but much of it can be used by the enthusiast. Just have to find what you are looking for.

NOTE* When getting ready to purchase supplies I would encourage you to search a few of these sites. Many of them carry some of the same product lines so by researching you may find better prices. Some of these are all inclusive type of stores and others are brand sites. Each will give you an idea of what the producs are all about.
Don't take any one word as fact. Do your research before you jump into a project that could do damange to your car and to your wallet.

Really? Had no idea. It's the older style pad. I want to try the Lake Country’s CCS Low Profile pads.

Yep.
CCS pads are great. The low profile ones are ok for tight areas since they are only 4 inches. But for most of your buffing needs just go with the regular 6.5 inch ccs pads for a DA and the 7.5 inch curved edge for your rotary needs.

Me too! I got banned though. What was your SN there? Screw MourningZ and his brokeback mtn. partner TheGSRGuy who has a million useless posts.

autogeek has a good deal right now on lake country 5" low profile orange cutting pads for you guys with a DA. They are the old style on closeout, but I really like the pad style. And other than white it is the pad I use the most. 6 for $15 is pretty good! For an at home detailer those should last you a long long time!

I have been buying stuff from here for a few years and am VERY happy with the products.. the paint cleaner and sealer are fantastic.. cons are sometimes you run out when you don't expect and you can't just run down to the store for more.

perfect auto finish used to be owned by Gary Kouba and he sold it May of this year. I've never been impressed really. Gary is more of a marketing guy. He made more money lecturing than detailing. He pushes, as does the new owner, that the best waxes will only last 30 days. Obviously he has not done his research. I think he mainly says that to push his own line of synthetic sealant. But if they make a living at it good for them I guess.

Stick http://www.exceldetail.com on the list. They have great quality microfiber towels for reasonable prices. I had great experiences with them. Got my first batch of towels from them over two years ago: the Monterey waffle weave drying towels lasted a long time (starting to kick the bucket now), and the Supreme Blue polishing MFs are still in great condition (and as soft as ever).
