So i bought a couple kenwood flex cables for the MP919 radios and fixed my own radio the other night. Only last little issue i'm having is that part of the flex cable comes out of the radio and sits between the radio and the faceplate. Should be able to finish everything tonight.

So i have a few cables left. Does anybody have a stock Mazdaspeed MP919 kenwood radio that needs to be fixed? I was quoted at 100$ locally to have mine fixed so i'm offering to fix yours for less than that (obviously). We'll just have to work out a price and details for shipping, etc.

Right now i'm just gauging interest to see if i would have to order more cables or not. This would be offered as a service i guess from Focus who is an AMM.

Mods, let me know if there's something wrong with that.

PM me if you want more info

why not share how to fix? I know how to get the ribbon cable hahaha

The how to already exists. This would be for people that don't want to risk the repair themselves, or don't have the time...

Ill fix it for a candy bar :)

lol

but yeah, like Focus said, the how to is on this forum, do a search for something like "kenwood mp919" or "fix kenwood" not sure what i searched to get it. you can get the ribbon from partsearch.com

i'm just offering to fix it for you if you are not comfortable with soldering the new ribbon in place.

I just repaired 2 more tonight, i'm on fire !! muahahaha =)

well how much could i get mine repaired for? I got 2 alpine decks and an indash dvd player just sittin in my room so i dont know if its even worth fixing...

I'm interested in getting my spare 919 fixed...let me know the cost.
I will be in Montreal for Christmas so I could drop it off to you.

Is the cable thing a permanent fix, or just replacing a broken cable with one that will break again?

My friend back home with a Mazdaspeed Protege had to get his fixed right when he bought the car (used), and then again a month later, and now 2 months after that it's broken again.

It is not a permanent fix, it is an inherent flaw of the design. The cable wears out over time.

But, it is the original radio from the car and does hold some type of value. Plus , it's cheaper than replacing it with an equivalent model !

Its not cheaper when it breaks more than once. A noble service being offered here, but why bother on such a poorly designed unit. If yours has not crapped out yet your lucky, but it will. Just do a simple search and see how many people are on their second or third unit. I stopped at one and have not looked back.

I followed the how to listed above and it took all of about an hour including the r&r to fix this. Works as good as new now. Have another spare ribbon cable in my toolbox now.

You can always go buy a 100$ radio at the store but this radio is worth alot more. not just because its the oem but once you get one of those cheap radios you will realize how many settings you have with this one, not to mention the 3 pairs of rca cables in the back of the radio. makes everything SO much easier.

It takes me under 30mins to do this including time to test it so it's not like i'm gona charge you guy 100$ to fix it. eh, i would do it for 25$ if you cover the price of ribbon + shipping. Ribbon with shipping is close to 15$ and then we have to figure out shipping which shouldnt be too much.

but like i said, i'm just offering this as a service IF you don't want to attempt this yourself. Anybody who has soldered once in their life (successfully hehe) can do this.
