Just curious what the RMS and peak wattage ratings are for the stock single disc stereo. Anyone know?

The RMS rating is a whopping 18 watts. I measured it with a RTA. That is at quite a bit of distortion though. So if your going to use an aftermarket adapter your going to want to use a good one like a navone which you can get at www.davidnavone.com

18 watts with big distortion. Great.
I actually have an Alpine 9820XM that I put in, and then took right back out of the WRX. I'll just wait a bit for a faceplate and put that into the 3. I've got an amp also, but the 6.5 Rockford separates I have might not fit the front doors. How does soundproofing look in the doors I wonder? I'd like to avoid tons of Dynamatting if at all possible.
Thanks for the info,

Well dynamating at least the front doors would certainly help your cause a little. It will help you get tighter midbass and better imaging up front, and it wouldn't add too much weight to the car at all. Also might cut down a LITTLE on some of the trememndous road noise the Mazda 3 is prone to. Your Rockford seperates will fit in the doors, you will need to make an adaptor for them though. I personally don't like the newer rockford stuff anymore, and I was never a fan of Rockford seperates to begin with, even their audiophile series (if your old enough to remember that) I feel was inferior in quality. Have you tried the MMATS pro seperates? A little pricey, but well worth it. Best stuff made in USA right now for the price!!

Good luck with your stereo system

I installed 4 Memphis 5x7's last week and it sounds great no distortion at all even at high volume.
