Water in the Trunk?? Anyone else?

Yesterday I heard some serious rattling from the trunk area that would still occur after the car came to a complete stop. After checking it out, I found that I had ICE floating on the top of a small pond in the trunk. There was some water under the spare tire, and the small trunk pocket on drivers side (the area where the jack is located but on the driver's side) was filled to the top with water and ice!!!

Over the past 3 months, I really started to notice a moldy smell in the car but on it's worse days, I would just contribute it to my own flatulence or the car in front of me or something. But it was probably the stink of sitting water!!

I know you guys don;t spend too much time in the spare tire area unless you need a spare, but if you get a chance, check it out and let me know if you are wet too.

Thanks,
Chris

I have a leak in my jack area...it appears to drain though...I had the dealer look at it but the seals were fine...it might be from my roof rack strips. There is a TSB on this and u should have the dealer fix that cause its a bit more extreme then my case

YES, wow i thought i was the only one! i have a small pool of water on the opposite side of the jack.

not sure how it got there....but really interested, as it can't be good...

yup, same place where mine was

It's probably been there for months but I just did not notice it until the ice cubes were floating. I gotta find out how it is getting in there. I's hoping it is not coming from higher up the car like the rear window or trunk cause you could possibly get water to leak under the back seat. THEN you really have the moldy stink to deal with.

Damn... I have a 1988 CRX Si that gets some drips in the trunk. THAT I can accept from a 15 year old car, but a 2003?? SHeeshh...

Well this is one thing I wanted to avoid... my '90 integra leaks like a sieve whenever it rains; I'd hoped my next car purchase wouldn't have the same problems. The entry points for water in my car are the tailight gaskets and the water run-off drain tube from the sunroof.

I'd be extremely interested in hearing what sort of fix there is on this, just so that I know this won't be an ongoing issue before puchasing this car...

I have the same problem. I took mine to the dealer because i was getting water in the trunk pocket on the drivers side. They said they fixed a taillight seal. I still get water, but not nearly as much. This past weekend I noticed some water by my spare, so I'll probably take it back in...

I noticed after a car wash that my laptop bag in my trunk had some water on it. I'm going to investigate this further now.

Haven't driven the speed in the rain...but when it rained hard, my 2001 miata had a LAKE of water in the trunk where the battery sits.

When i talked to the dealer they were kinda int he dark about the leaks. Unfortunately they couldnt fix it themselves but are sending me to a glass place to have weatherstripping put on. On my car it is most likely from the roof rack runners..,which interestingly are absent on new p5's. Its probably the rear tailights..as was mentioned but u never know. Best thing is to get a friend, hot lady preferably, spray your car with water and then check to see if there are any leaks around the rear window...taillights etc. Why a hottie u ask...well if she's got a white t-shirt on and doesnt mind gettin wet u could have alot of fun.
peace

Why would you spray the car before the grisl gets in? You should put the girl in the trunk, tie her down really good. Wash the car, take it for a spin around the block and then check up on the friend...

i just checked; my water is gone.

the inside of the car is damp as hell though, but i attribute that to me not having my HVAC controls hooked up, the A/C condensor never turns on. its supposed to remove cabin moisture.
