Water in my Cold Air Intake?

:
Mazda 3
Ok I had water go into my cold air intake...but b4 this happened I LOVED the sound it added tto my car went great with my magnaflow exhaust..it gave it a lower sound and it sounded good all the way up the rev limiter :) but then water got into it..and I bought a prefilter which is just a cover for the K&N(Injen) filter and then an Air Bypass Valve for in the middle of the 2 peice design...I was wondering..can adding something like that in the pipe change the sound ? I honestly dont think my car is as loud now but maybe its all in my head? I dont know :( but I need a way to use the regular coupling and not get water in the car..also can somone tell me how the Air Bypass Valve works to keep water out? doesnt look like it would do anything...

The cover would prevent a little bit of air restriction, so its very possible it has affected the sound of the CAI. The bypass valve has rubber slits cut into it beneath the filter, so when the car starts to suck water at the end of the intake, the vaccum effect caused by the lack of air opens the slits, and allows the intake to breathe in through there and not continue to suck up water. Somewhere on AEM's site on the info about the bypass filter or on their downloads/media etc. there is a video that shows how it works. Its pretty cool.
