Wastegate problem?? HELP

Hi,

My Mazdaspeed 3 is making some weird sound when full boost kicks in (Only when I floor it). It felt like boost is being cut back and the sound that is coming from the engine is like ABS being kicked in(yes, I'm sure is not from the ABS). I brought it to Wheel Works and had them checked out, the mechanic thinks it might be the wastegate problem, but he is not 100% sure. He suggested me to bring it to the dealer and let them take a look. Here is the funny part, the mechanic from Mazda told me it was my cold air intake that is making the sound and they are charging me $180 just for diagnostic. (boom08). I'm going to cancel my extended warranty from them and get back my money, they are just a bunch of stupid monkeys with wrenches on their hand. So here is my question, do you guys think this is a waste gate issue? Have that happened to anyone here? Thanks for the help.

I've never heard ABS make a noticeable noise in any of my cars. Am I missing something?

Can you describe the sound? Do you have an audio or video file with the sound so folks can hear it? Have you added or changed any parts recently? In the past few weeks? Months? Hard for anyone here to diagnose this or make any logical comment about your dealership service experience based on what you've said so far. Not enough info.

I have a Cobb SRI and Hypertech tune. I think it will be vary hard for me to capture the weird noise since the sound from the engine will be covering it. Now my car feel sluggish in the higher RPM when I step on the gas all the way. My mechanic told me to drive it for 200-300 miles and try to bring it back for them to do another diagnostic, hopefully he can help me to resolve this issue. Regardless what the real problem is, I can guarantee is not my intake that is causing this issue. Stupid dealership just like to blame everything to aftermarket parts, I really felt like I got robbed today.

What gear are you mashing the throttle in? You definitely should have something to monitor with when you have a tune.. The sound could very well be knock which sounds pretty disgusting when it happens... Sort of does sound like the crunching of abs but not quite.

I can hear it from 2nd and up gear. I already changed the tune back to stock but the problem is still there. It I go lightly on the throttle, it seems to be ok, but if i floored on it after 4000 rpm, that's when i can hear that leaking air noise and I can feel the turbo is trying to generate boost but not able to.

Check for leaks, even stock the inlet pipe has been known to come loose at the turbo. Also check the hoses on the intercooler and that your boost solenoid is still intact (they are known to break the nipples off when you glare at them too hard)
