Warm start idle

I've got about a weeks worth of mileage on my new hiboost kit and I'm loving every minute of it. (lick)

So far the biggest issue I have is an erratic idle after warm starts. That is to say I'll drive my car out for lunch, go in and eat, and when i come back out and start the car the revs will bounce up and down between 500 and 1000 almost stalling for about 30 seconds before it settles down to a steady idle. Only happens when its warm - any idea what could be causing this?

as mentioned, its a p5 with a hiboost kit and E6X.

its a bad tune, well known issue

Juan recommends backing out the phillips head throttle bypass screw on the top side of the throttle body itself about 3 turns counter-clockwise. This will slightly raise idle but more importantly allow a more steady flow of air to circulate around the throttle plate when a/c cycles or whatever. If the screw starts bleeding air audibly, tighten it until it stops.

Always good to hear of another Hiboosted P5. Give that a chance because all the Haltechs are pre-mapped by Juan out of the box.

Good Luck and let me know how that goes.

What he said. Fixes the issue. Also smooths out cold start idle as well.

After I recently put on my FMIC from Mental Addiction, I have the same problem. I'm looking to get my car tuned in the next few weeks by a Mazda guru named Mark at Turbo Tune in Greensboro. He used to tune the Unichips, but decided to work with the MPI tuner and Haltech crowd lately. He told be before that he still has the old tuning info for the Unichip unless they've changed it up in the last few years. But mine is at least 1 & 1/2 years old, so maybe he'll be able to still tune it for me. We shall see. After that, everything should be good to go. That man knows his s*it. I've heard nothing but good things about him and that he's the best in the business when it comes to Mazdas and turbo set ups. If nothing else, at least I should get a dyno run out of it.

hm... thought I had done this already... I'll give 'er a few more turns and see if it helps.

I'm actually surprised how good the tune is right out of the box, I was expecting to do at least a little tweaking to make it more streetable but so far I haven't even had to touch the haltech.

does anyone know where the phillips head throttle bypass screw is for the 1.6L ... my idle is rough and sometimes even stalls.

LOL. Got my custom FMIC and plumbing put on last week and I have the same damn problem. Just waiting to get my wideband installed so I can run it on the dyno and get it tuned properly. The local tuner wasn't too keen about tuning with the DSM AFC but he eventually agreed to do it. WTF? When he gets $160.00/hr for tuning you wouldn't think that he would be complaining.

The guy over here charges about the same and heaven forbid you even TALK during his tuning session. He will throw a wrench at you. And I'm not kidding. It's like brain surgery to him and he needs SILENCE!!!! Like Albert Einstein of the turbo tuning world. lol
