Mazda 3 Sport
hey guys. I wanted to get a manual M3 sport but i got one problem, ive never driven stick before. i want to learn but no one that i know has a car with a stick. So it seems like i might be going with an auto. Are there any alternative that i can do to learn and get the feel of driving a stick?

Do you know anyone that is capable of driving stick? Maybe you could get them to drive it to a big empty parking lot for you. Then you practice until you are ready to leave the lot. Kind of a leap of faith to buy then learn though. I don't know if they would let you do such an extensive "test drive".
When I was learning, I drove around the Rice University stadium lot.
But I recommend trying to get a stick if you can.

well my friend bout an acura rsx type s without knowing to drive stick and i tought him on his car his mom drove it out the dealership then i thought him aroun dmy neighborhood. th eonly thing hard a bout stick shift is first gear everything else is pretty easy. also there are tutorials online that show you how to drive stick i have links but im at work and don't have access to aol

Or you can take a class to learn how to drive stick... It's not difficult at all. Check with driving schools around ya!
PS: Plz don't get AUTOOO

I don't think you should learn to drive stick on a car with an MSRP of $47,300 & 333 horsepower, but maybe that's just me. (uhm)

it's super easy once you get a hang of it. It's all about getting used to the fraction zone, and controlling the throttle. If you know anyone who has a motorcycle, you can learn the same concept with the clutch and throttle. I found that my shifting is much better after I learned how to ride a motorcycle.

Blah, Mazda doesn't make an M3.

Anyways, I bought my MSP without knowing how to drive stick. Learned that first day. Don't buy an auto "just because" if you know you want stick...and you know you want stick!

Don't let the fear of not being able to do it keep you from it. If you do, you'll never learn.

The Mazda 3 has a very forgiving clutch. If you're nervous, have someone come with you who can drive a stick to drive the car home. Go to an empty parking lot (behind supermarkets work well, as it's long, flat, and deserted) and practice until you get the hang of it. You'll stall, buck, and curse a blue streak, but you'll get it. Promise. :D

Yeah, it's just a matter of getting a feel for the spot where the clutch engages, how much gas it takes to not stall, and remembering to put it into first at every stop.

One practicing tip is to try to get the car in gear and rolling without giving any gas at all, this wouldn't be done under normal driving, but it will give you a very good feel for the clutch.

do it properly, call up a driving skool and they will teach you all the basics and get you going. they will help you more than any friend can.

^ depends what kind of friends you have...
Yeah, for example, if any of your friends are driving instructors, that would probably help a lot to have them around.

Haha, just kidding, I agree that a driving school is not a necessity.

i bet some of ur relatives know how to drive stick.

go to a dealership take out a manual car, if the salesman isnt there, have ur relative give u a quick 10-15 min lesson.

2-3 10-15 minute lesson should be enough to get u started.
I had 2 10-15 minute lessons, I can drive in residential streets without pissing my pants now.

good luck.

f-it... just go to the dealership and get in the manual with the sales men and tell him this is the one you want then start to try and drive it... after all the bucking and squealling he will be pissin his pants... it would be classic...!!!

or tell them you will only by a stick but you need to learn first... i bet you they will teach you on some pos loaner or something they have out back just to get the sale... you will be surprised what a dealership will do to get a sale.... i know i wouldn't hesitate to teach some one to drive a stick if it meant a new sale!!

A buddy of mine bought an RSX out here in Regina, I drove it back to Moose Jaw for him (right off the lot! woo hoo!) and gave him a demonstration, then switched seats and let him drive in a big empty parking lot. It's best if you can get someone to show you proper technique for hill starts right off the bat as well. BUT the long and the short of it is, it's really easy!!

My sales rep took me out back and spent an hour with me. If they want to sell you the car, they will do the same.
