Want to buy this P5 but have a question

Yeah, I realize it is modified but I just didn't realize to what extent since I rarely ever notice any P5s around my area. If I do get it I will have to go back to stock suspension as I can't stand scraping or slowing down over bumps.

Well, there is an abundance of stock springs for sale on the forum, should you need them.

;)

Looks like it's also got a short-shifter in it...

Definitely riding pretty low...looks like about a 2" DROP which is either coilovers or something like megan lowering springs....You'll need to get some kind of single din cover for under the aftermarket radio...I couldn't imagine why you would drive around without one.

If it has not been wrecked, and he didn't drive the living piss out of it...It sounds like a good deal..and it's silver which is sexay....

Check out the airbag situation #1, that would be the biggest turn off for me, and the lowering springs...just ask some more questions, and we'll give you some imput as to what we'd do..

Update. I am no longer looking to buy that P5. It turns out to have a Salvage title. I do however have seen and driven a white P5 not too far from my area. It has a clean title and in good condition. I just don't know if I can live with it having an automatic transmission (even though it does have the sport shift). The car seems kind of weak (power wise) with the auto. I have driven manual cars all my life.

It comes down to a personal preference. In general, manuals are simpler, cheaper, more fun, hehe.

However, I must say that with stiff motor mounts you do not want to get stuck in stop-and-go!

Bah!

ProtoType5, how are your inserts treating you?

/threadjack

I always driven manual cars as well... couldn't see myself in a auto, until she showed up... mine is a 2002 not 2002.5 so I don't have the sport shift.

To be honest with you...with as many stop signs and lights I have to go through on the daily basis I noticed how much easier my ride to work and/or around town is. Plus I have two kids so its easier for me to turn around and wack one of them every now and then...(lol2) j/k

Also with all the snow we get in Upstate NY, I just come and go as I wish in the winter with no problems.

i love the sport autos, Id go nuts if i had to shift at barley 3500 everytime

I drive a sport auto. It does have less power than the manual. There are times I wish I had a manual. And there are times I'm glad I got the auto. It is still fun to leave it in 2nd gear and romp on it. Though it took quite a few mods to get to that point - header, intake, exhaust, udp, motor mounts... Give it a try :).

Glad to know we could help you. I also noticed that the ignition area is a different color as well. It also has those snap-on window covers and a playboy bunny in the rear. hot.

Since you're in the market for a p5, most came with a roof rack, which is known to cause noise at high speeds. The 2003.5 came with no roof rack and a spare tire subwoofer that really fills the cabin with sound. If you're the kind of person who doesn't want to throw your own subs in and run wires, that might be something to consider as well.

I actually wanted a roof rack because I can mount my bike rack on it. My car was kind of noisy when I had the roof mounted bike rack already so I am pretty sure I can deal with the noise. Plus I have heard that the roof rack is removable.

I have a factory roof rack AND and an actual bike tray attachment.

I don't notice any noise really, neither do the passengers.

I would definitely look for a 2002.5 or later as they have added some good things to the car, like has been said.

It would seem that the other white P5 is sold already. I can't find anymore P5 in my area around my price range (0 to $8000). Most are $10,000 and up or have salvage titles. My search has come to a halt. I will be back on this board when I find an affordable P5. If anybody knows someone with a P5 around Northern California (specifically the Sacramento area)please let me know. Thanks again for all your help.

My quest for a protege 5 has at last come to an end. I ended up purchasing a used Mazda 3 Hatchback instead. I want to again thank all of you for helping me out. I guess I will now move over to the Mazda 3 forum. LOL. (outie)
