NAV is not very up to date. Figure it this way, for $500 you can get an up to date unit you can take to your office/room, get updates and program your next trip! And move it to your truck when you haul your car to the track!

I agree the NAV is kinda weak...My main problem with the nav is that the map always stay orientated north and doesnt change with the direction of the vehicle which can be kinda confusing at first and still kinda is a times for me. I had a Pioneer NAV before this and it was more refined and the map changed with your direction.. yet there are some things in particular thats good about the mazda NAV.

you can orient it either way... click the joystick and press up and left and click the orientation icon
