Wait for 2011 or buy the 2010?

Ive been talking to some dealers in the San Francisco bay area. The lowest OTD price I have is $23,300 for a Grand Touring W/ Navigation. Is that a good price? Im assuming he's selling it for about $20k plus all fees, the sales tax in my city is 9.75%.

I think the 2011 is ugly but I wouldnt mind having it if it's a 7 seater, stronger engine and possibly better MPG.

Should I get this or wait for the 2011 model? Thanks

You'll get more feedback if you list the options on the car and what the MSRP is. It's hard to answer your question without knowing more.

This post is intresting, cause i am also in a similar situation and can't decide as well.

I just wish we had more info/specs on the new 2011 NA mazda5.

Then again the current M5 and engine (2.4) have been around for awhile so all the bugs should be worked out on the 2010 and right now fianancing is low 0 %

I was in the same boat too; in the end, I pulled the trigger two months ago and every time I see pictures of the 2011, I'm sure that I made the right choice.

I think that the current 5 has a distinctly "foreign" look to it that makes it very unique. The 2011 is more in line with typical North American styles. They probably did it to sell more cars, but it defeats the whole purpose of why I really like the current 5. And, if the NA version does have that functionality that turns the engine off and on constantly to save $.50 worth of gas per tank, I would never own it. Call me a curmudgeon for resisting that technology, but my last Honda was ruined by all of its eco bells and whistles. I don't want that crap.

It really depends on what you are now driving and whether you "need" a new car right now.

Unless it was a killer deal on the 2010, I would wait until next spring so that I can go to the Chicago auto show to see the new Ford C-Max. I would then choose between the C-Max which will be released in the fall of 2011 as a 2012 model, or the 2011 Mazda5.

But if you need a vehicle now, go with the 2010 Mazda5. By the way, unless you live in a high crime area, consider an aftermarket in-dash navigation unit. A nice 2-din radio that can play .mp3s and your iPod. Heat... Ive been looking at C-Max and it looks great. The second row looks like it could actually fit three adults. Im thinking the C-max is a bit wider but cant find the specs. Here is a vid on the second row.

I'm in the same boat. But here's my plan of approach. At the very least, I’d say wait till the official 2011 specs are announced before you make a decision.


Once the 2011's specs come out and it has better power AND improved MPG AND seats 7 AND base price stays in the same range, I will go with the 2011. I can live with fuggly looks since I am buying this from a practicality stand point.

By the time specs are announced and ALL of these do not come to fruition I would pick up a 2010. They should be heavily discounted by the time the 2011's are avail on lots but pickings would be slim since I want MT only. I figure I can make use of the 2010 for a few years and resell to 'potentially' pick up a C-Max Grand or some other competitor that offers MT down the road.

If neither of the scenarios above work out or auto is my only option, I'd just get the Rav4 with the +2 seat option and call it a day.

I don't know how (if at all) the C-MAX and Mazda 5 center 2nd row seat differ but in this video Ford is taking all the credit for coming up with this idea. Is it different or theirs all along, perhaps in Europe? I though this was Mazda's Karakuri Seating System.?.

Silentnoise...It does seem ford is taking credit. The only difference I see with the karakuri...its the c-max a little wider..I think.

The Ford C-Max has a stowaway centre seat.

The Mazda Premacy has a foldaway centre seat.

I'm pretty sure they are the same width, just that the C-Max has narrower outward seats.

Got in touch with the dealer and it turns out the price(23,300 OTD) is for a non nav car. I made it clear in the email I send dealers about the OTD price. Currently the lowest I have now is 24,836 OTD with nav.
