Hey all ...

Thinking of getting a Mazda 6s Wagon this yr and was wondering about a few things. What better place to ask than here.

- Are we at the end of the '04 model cycle? Will the '05's be appearing soon?
- Anyone know if the Nav system found in the Mazda 3 will be an option on the '05 Mazda 6 wagons?

Thank you!

Yes the '04 model cycle is now over. However, the '05's will be kind of limited for the next little while, and here's why.

If I remember correctly, Job 1 for the '05 N. American-spec Mazda6 was Aug 23. However, a few of the newest '05's don't have the new 6-speed auto tranny (which is really the biggest item with the '05). Also, there's a lot of '04's left because AAI was building up Mazda6 stock throughout August. They were doing this in preparation for '05 Mustang production and any hiccups as a result of that (Job 1 for the '05 Mustang was yesterday - Sep 7).

No, NAV will be added in the '06 refresh.

The only big change in 05 is the inclusion of a 6sp ATX in the 6s automatics. (Replacing the jatco 5 sp).

You have to check though, cause supposedly a batch of 05's escaped out of the factory with the old 5sp's, so if your getting an ATX, verify first that its the 6sp, and not the old 5sp.

Usually there are lots of subtle unannouced changes between model years that the dealers are generally unaware of.

For example, between 03 and 04 Mazda 6s's, the sump size of the oil pan was increased 0.5 quarts. So a complete filter and oil change on an 04 6s takes 6 qts, while on a 03 it takes 5.5.

These types of hidden changes always occur under the radar.

If you want to know more about the 03/04 changes, there is a thread on 6tech pointing out a variety of different ones. From vents in the wheel well, to different coil #'s, to different sump sizes, the minor differences are all over the place.

also the always on gear indicater in later atx 6's

I was considering the 5-spd manual anyway, so that's not a big deal. Bummer about the Nav, I was hoping to be able to get it.
