Vtcs

ok guys so my sister got an 03 miata and soon after the check engine light came on... we called the guy back and asked wtf is up with that... he said dont worry ill fix it for yall, well i still took the precaution and took it to autozone to see what was up just in case he tried to pull a fast one on us...(you know what i mean) anyway well the code came back and it was a P2004 so i did some research and i came across a bunch of things you can do to fix this?!?! from DIY to takin it to the dealership and re-flashing the comp... so my question is what would be the best way to go about this? any suggestions for me to tell the guy takin care of this ? how to fix it and prevent this from happening again? any help is greatly appreciated thanks guys!

this is what the autozone printout said......... P2004-- Defenition- Variable Tumble Control System (VTCS)- Shutter Valve Stuck open.

Probable Causes
1-Disconnected or damaged Vacuum Hose
2-Binding VTC actuator
3-VTC solenoid malfunction

check to see if he has the sensor pluged in....you don't need the vac hoses if the vtcs was removed but the sensor still needs to be plugged in

well there should be 'sensors' that have elec connections and vac lines going to them somewhere around your intake mani

the miata ecus can't be flashed anyway, so don't waste your time at the dealership
