woot i put my viper remote start system in my car sunday and its sweet!! bypassing the clutch relay was kind of a pain but i figured it out.. i rigged a couple of switches and relay onto the shifter so that way if its in gear the remote start is deactivated. im also gonna work on a alarm system call out devic so that way if any one breaks into my car and opens my door my car usses a cell phone to call me on my phone.. and let me clarify.. i know they are alarms with pagers on there but any one who has one knows they only work with a limmited amount of range and if your in a building haaaa good luck with that..... if my cell phone call out works i could be in a building and aslong as the phones are getting a signal it will work.

Cool, I love my remote start. Makes cold mornings a little easier as you don't have to sit in the cold car while it warms up to go. Just turn on the car while brushin your teeth and then go. But don't have to much faith in the gear position switch. I had to adjust mine every few weeks then I learned not to leave it in gear and haven't worried about it since.

My brother in law had a remote start on his 5speed civic. Accidentally pressed it in his pocket and it ramed him to the wall (boom07)

I'm curious about the relays on the shifter...Does the protege use some type of VSS where you just wired it to disable if it senses movement? How did you wire that up?

Also, you're going to have a 2nd cell phone in the car? With many cell co. out there offering a 2nd line for under 10 bucks, that's not that bad.

its consist off 2 switches with a bracket to hold it in and when its in gear it pushes the switch and turns it off i can post a pic of it

edit: forgot to mention cell phone thing. yes i will have a two trigger system basicly if alarm is going off and door trigger is activated or if battery is disconnected than it calls out to me.. i mean who wouldnt pay that little extra cash for that added security

haha nix the pics cuase i forgot that in mazdas infanint stupidity has the screws for the shifter boot under the boot making them almost impossible to get to unless you take out the whole center console

You can take that of in a sec. just pull back on the cup holders and the hole thing will pop off. That's what I do when I have to clean out the cup holders. The hole thing slides out and its plastic so I can wash it in the sink.

You should have read the Protege alarm threads, where you could have found the neutral safety wire coming straight from the transmission and just hook it to the park brake input. Then the alarm wouldnt start if in gear or shut down if put in gear...one simple wire. (boom07)

Pirana you cheeky bastard. Thanks for the headsup. I've been trying to research this so that when I get my car back i can put in the remote starter. Thanks again.

i have a dei installer tech program they made no mention of the manual protege haveing a neutral wire i dont.. and on manual tranny you have to bypass the clutch becuase you have to push the clutch down to start it.

actually ive never heard of any manual trannys having a neutral wire before unless it had a system in it that told you what gear the car was in.. if thats the case than what would be the point in having a clutch swtch when all you would have to do is drop the car in neutrual. i dont feel like searching the threads but im pretty sure the wire refers to automatics

I had a shop that was going to do it but said he wanted to wire the turbo timer on the viper to ensure that not nescerily I but that no one else left it in gear.

I cant wait, here is the pic of the wire...
