I am happy to announce that the vibrating sound in the dash of my Mazda 3 is gone. There was a loose cable under the dash below the steering wheel - just had to be snapped back into place.

The factory representative was very helpful and polite - top marks to him!

Many thanks to those who contributed their advice!!

Can you give us more details on when the rattle would occur and how it sounded like (before the fix of course). And also give us more details on where this loose cable is and where it is supposed to be snapped into (and whether anything had to be removed to access this cable, etc...).

This way other members with the same issue can contact their dealer or DIY.

Thanks.

The sound was very much like the resonance from the exhaust (that "sporty" sound") but you could tell it was a vibrating sound in the dash. As for the exact position of the cable, I don't know because the factory rep did the work. All he did was put his hand up under the dash (directly below the steering wheel) and snap the cable back into it's clip. His name is Paul Cheetham (Field Manager - Technical) - pcheetham@mazda.com.au
