Vibrant exhaust dyno

Vibrants in house dyno.... for those who havent seen it. I hadnt. I'll be ordering AEMs wideband today, because either my car is a freak or there isnt a dyno in Greensboro, NC thats worth a s***.

Theres no way my dyno is accurate. I cant believe that my MS CAI triggered the ECU to pound the engine with gasoline because Ive now got an aftermarket exhaust.

Sorry Im whining so much. But I figure the guys with the Vibrant, and no EMS, are still interested in this thread.

Damn, Tuesday can't get here fast enough. A lot of interesting info. which makes me hope I don't run into the same issue.

What sucks is that their website claims one thing, but the graph shows something different.

From Vibrant:
Our Dyno tests show gains of almost 20 HP and 25 ft. lbs of torque vs. the stock exhaust system at 4500 RPM and it continues to make power all the way to redline.

But their graph only shows an increase of 9 for HP and almost 25 for torque.

Your graph pretty much proves that. No gain in HP, but you did get the 20 in torque.

I won't know what gains I made since I did not do a baseline before the exhaust was installed.

yea its only a 9hp MAX gain, but thats only for a small portion of the graph...for a while during it your gaining close to 20

and its a 20tq MAX gain, but again only for part of the graph

gotta realize that while a mod doesnt necessarily put you in the 20+ hp range that it still changes across the whole powerband too...and those gains are truely awesome and I must say that you guys gotta feel that pull pretty damn hard now...Im jealous lol

now looking at that first guys graph closer check out the huge difference in humidity at the time of the second run...thats also a huge factor in what is going on there too

They were using a standard correction factor to account for atmospheric changes. So that shouldnt be an issue.

Also I might mention.... we did 5 pulls. Three were done in 4th and we did two more in 3rd. After the first two we started putting ice on the intercooler... to keep any heatsoak down. The last three dynos were almost identical to the first two, so it really didnt help. Two fans blowing in front... hood was resting down.

The third gear pulls showed lower hp as would be suspected but the A/F was still the same as I recall. All three fourth gear pulls were within a +/- range of 3-5 of both torque and hp. On the chart they looked identical so I just used the first one.

Hopefully this helps you guys going to dyno. Id love for you all, to use similar conditions and setup...but Im not paying..lol But I will say that if there is anybody in the Triad who wants a dyno FOR FREE, for my comparisons sake at Turbo Tune..... well then, Im buying. A $75 dollar value.... Contact me if your interested. Of course lunch would be on you.:)

I wont feel good tuning here unless I get some corraboration.

Today is finally here. Have my dyno appoitment at 9:30. Will bring my camera for some action shots. As soon as I get back I will post up. Any guesses on what I will pull?

Vibrant DP back exhaust
Mazdaspeed intake
Forge BPV
RP oil

Not happy with the results. Says the car is running way to rich. I am going back on Thursday after I get the recall done on the reflash and shutter valve. Any thoughts?

229hp
253tq

on a speed3?

those numbers dont seem right

what was the humidity and such? idk if the speed3s are like the msps but with the msps if it was hot outside your could forget about putting down any power without an ems =(

that is strange

its almost like a loss in power
are you sure you dont have any kind of an exhaust leak?

maybe the speed3 doesnt take too well to modifications without ems =(

And the plot thickens.....

What gear did you pull in? What setup was used on the runs(ie.. hood open, closed...fans, etc)?
What kind of dyno was it? You said it was running rich? How rich?
How does your car feel?

Hmmm.. Dynos are different. Its a shame that you didnt have a baseline of some sort. Didnt the ETS stock car dyno at like 209... maybe Cobbs too? I wouldnt worry too much about that if the car pulls.

Post that thing up.... I want to see the A/F.

I think they were in 4th gear. They asked what gear I wanted them to use and I just looked at them. I figured they would know. Set up was open hood, no fans and the shroud over the intercooler was left on. Thye did 3 pulls one right after the next. The dyno was a dynojet. They wanted to hook up the AFR "bung" right to the car, but couldn't so they used a a "sniffer" in the tail pipe. You could smell the gas it made my eyes burn.

I think the car pulls hard. I won't have the graph until Thursday when I go for another run. He seemed shocked at how low it was also. So he said I should come back after the reflash and do it again for free....

I have the yellow spring in my BPV. Should I switch it out for the blue? I could also make my MS intake into a short ram or should I just leave everything alone and see what happens?

Thansk for all the input by the way.

its only numbers man. Go to the track, if you trap under 100mph then you have a problem.

That being said what would the problem be?

Scooter, I have the same exact setup as u. and I think another guy here in the forum have the same exact setup. and he's making 250whp. I went to the track with this setup and my trap speed was 100.4 mph and that's with a not-so-good launch. Maybe it was the humidity. 17% seem low. Wouldnt you make more power if it's more humid? more moisture in the air means more combustion, right?

Got me. Those were the numbers I was hoping for, but who knows. Don't know if the humidity had a big play in it, but then again I don't know that much about turbos or dynos. We will see what the track brings on Saturday night.

Ive also read that with the hood closed and a fan pointed at the front end of the car it will make more power than with the hood open. I'd give that a try.

edit: my bad. You have noo idea how tired I am.
