Ventpod Group Buy Feeler!

A short question please. If we, the customer, wanted to paint the pod. what method and type of paint would adhere and look best. Thanks for all the effort and detail.

I've used Dupli-Color automotive spray touch-up paint paint with good success. ABS plastic is very receptive to paint. Due to the high-gloss finish that they will have, I'd recommend applying several light coats to avoid any running. ;)

Calling any available CX-7's and RX-8's in Michigan's "tri-county" area (Oakland, Macomb, Wayne).....

I need to get a good look at these vehicle's vents. I'd like to remove the left hand registers and get some measurements. I'm pretty sure that my Mazda 6 solution will work in both of these other vehicles. I need to get good measurements to confirm.

I'd also like to get a good look at the backside of the center vents (3 vents) housing to scheme a way to make one of my existing products work in those locations as well.

I'd like to take these measurements personally. I need to get my dimensions accurate to within a couple of tenths of a mm, and to get that accurate, I have to do it myself. Not that anyone else isn't capable, it's just that I know exactly where to measure to and from to get the proper dimensions I need.

So, who's up for it?

Thanks again everyone, and we are indeed VERY close to kicking this thing off!! Mid-to-late next week is when I expect to announce the product launch! I have to talk to the admins here also. ;)

Jim, I'd suggest you post over in the MI section of the boards. Being one of the more active members over there, I know of a few CX-7s and RX-8s around us. You should have no trouble finding someone willing.

A few questions that I thought of today:

1 - for the 6, is that designed for the center or drivers side vent? I'm not sure if they're identical, just wanted to know which area it would work best for.

2 - with your other applications, do you have any issues inducing a whistle or noise as the air passes through the area between the pod and outer radius? Is that something that has been an issue?

Good call on the MI section. Will do!

As for the Mazda 6 design...
I have two proposals worked up for this vehicle (I'll post pics of the second one after I get the prototype made). One is for the left hand vent. This vent is larger than the 3's, so I've devised a secondary bezel to work with the Mazda 3 pod that takes up the gap. I received that bezel this evening, so tomorrow I'll place it in our donor vehicle and get some pics.
The second design will fit into any or all of the three center vents. This design is again a two piece design that utilizes another of my existing designs in conjuction with a bezel/retainer. The two parts fit together, and are then inserted into the "triple vent assembly" that unscrews from the back of the center trim panel. Once you bolt the vent assembly back together with the trim panel, the pods are captured in the dash.
I took a 6 dash panel off today. I've never done it before and it only took me 6 or 7 minutes....really easy.

I, personally, like the center vent proposal best. But the choice will be up to the customer. I may just make both versions. ;) Obviously, if we elect to go with the left vent version, I'll need to step up and make more Mazda 3 pods to fill those orders. :)

Like I said, I try and get pics posted of both tomorrow. ;)

Oh, and no...never had any issues with whistling or howling or anything of the sort. Ain't no "Bub-Rub" up in here!! LOL!

I'm more interested in the center vent for my MS6, just for the cleaner look and more stock appearance.

It was just a concern about the whistling...glad to hear that it ain't 'like an alarm clock' LOL.

I think you're gonna like what I've been able to "cobble" together for the 6's center vents. I've only made one so far, with the left-over pieces I have from the last 2 years of mocking things up. But if it looks okay, I'll cobble up a couple more for the "full effect"!! Yay!

In a Speed 6!!

For you 6 owners!!!

That 6 combo (3 pod + 6 bezel) cost me over $260 bucks, and it's the only one I have. No offense, but this baby isn't going anywhere, LOL! ;)

I'm working on finding a local "donor". Thanks anyway though. ;)

Here are the pics of the 6 with a center pod. These will be a drop-in replacement for the existing louvre assembly. ;)
