Vent Selector won't stay in defrost

I wasn't sure what forum category this fit into, but here goes. I purchased a new 2014 CX-5 about a month ago. The vent selector will not stay in defrost. It feels like there is tension in it and it simply twists itself out of defrost. I have had it back to the dealer three times for this issue. After the third time, they told me it was a factory design flaw and they cannot repair it as all CX-5's have this issue (there is one other CX-5 on the lot with this problem). To me, this does not make sense as I cannot fathom that every CX-5 out there will not stay in defrost mode. They have done nothing to replace any parts (just cleaned out factory grease, checked cable's, etc).

Is anyone else having a similar issue? And did you manage to get it fixed? I am thinking about writing a letter to mazda as the dealer has simply washed their hands of the situation. Thanks!

I had that issue the first time I tried to switch it into defrost after I purchased my car, but after the first couple of times it stopped doing that. Sounds like the situation you are experiencing is worse than what most of us have encountered.

Here is another thread detailing the same issue:

Like I said in the other thread, mine does it from tie to time. I found that going backward and forward a couple of times and it finally stayed in the far right position. Felt like the internal flow director 'door' was sticking.

Mine did that too when It was brand new. After using it a few times over 1000 miles it broke in and it's fine now. I have 29,300 miles now and no more sticking or popping back. I was afraid to let the mechanic at the dealer mess with that part because in my experience once they do it's never the same again.
