V8 swapped rx7's???

Yea the 3rd gens. are sexy. I couldnt afford one of those to do the swap to anyway.

As I got the thinking about this swap more and more I decided Im going to use a freshly rebuilt 302 sitting in my dads garage. Its almost done I say with the price hes going to make me pay him for the motor and tranny and completing the build shouldn't cost me any more then 1 grand. So now its all about finding a old rx7 to put it in. If anyone in KY has one for sale let me know. Of course I would prefer one that does not run to keep the cost down.
I guess I will post any progress I get on the board. Wish me luck.

I found a 79 rx7. THe body is in good shape just some surface rust. It doesnt run so it should be cheap, im going to contact the seller tomorrow to see on a price. Where can I buiy replacemtn oem cars for a old mazda like this?? Just your regular things like new doors seals and things of that sort. Thanks guys!!!

I'm in the process of buying a shell and do the swap. I have 16g's to play with so i'm using a 3rd gen shell and a ls-1. I'll start a thread when I begin the project. Shell may be picked up this weekend.

Dark-One, well your project will be alot cooler then mine. I think I found a shell also, checked out the 79, great body everything else not so great. Let me know when you start the project and any problems you run into!!!

actually yea, id still rather have a Rotary. Your engine dosent blow if you know what your doing.

What's the trick? I've ALWAYS liked the FDs. I pass a house everytime I turn the corner to my GFs house and this local FD looks at me and says take me home. It's in need of TLC with the paint but besides that I think she's in good condition. I had a glimpse of the garage and I saw was a large Craftsman tool cabinet, a corvette, miata and large banners decorating inside. It seems to be his daily driver. The minute it's for sale I will have to bug him about it.

Im def. not 99% of people. I usually am the 1% thats different. I love the thought of having a v8 mazda. The insurance company will not know about the v8, which will save me a ton of money. Also having a stock motor with close to 300hp at th wheels, which can take alarge shot of nitrous or great boost without having to be scared of blowing your motor. I cant wait to have it!!!

haha the insurance isnt gonna be cheap it is a sports car reguardless of the motor in it.............rotary can take everything you can throw at it if you know how to treat her..maintenance etc

I don't know whose car this was, but it looked nice at Tampa last summer. LS1 I believe.

Hey guys, I have probably a dozen if no more of the older style mazda rx7's.....I have an original '78 that had the 12A rotary....have a 79, 80, 82,83,84,85,86.....With a couple of the 12A's, we played around with stripping off the emmissions controls, and port & polishing....was better performance then stock...buttry it on a 13B rotary....DAMN! not too many cars on the road keep up, and I get flagged over all the time people asking whats under the hood.....
Thinking ofwhat else to do, I bought another rx7, and swapped over to a 350.....the first one we did was a flop....waaaayyyyyy too much power, and she twistd first shot.....so we did another one, with a sub frame, roll cage etc.....not bad....she rock & rolls!!! I find that due to soo much weigt in the front, she still slides way too easy....
So I have found myself an aluminum block from a Land Rover, and plan to try this out....
I have been playing with these cars & engines for years, and man are they ever fun! Beats spending $20 to go around the block in one of em tanks....
