v8 rx7

Im anti V8 because everyone automatically assumes I have one in my 2nd Gen when I drive it hard. OR everyone always says put a Small Block in it. It will go fast they say. Whats wrong with a rotary? Does it rev too high? Is it because the tourque band never drops off once it hits? Maybe its because its only 1.3L. I dont really know. RX-7's are becoming collectors items now-a-days. Up here you'd pay $25,000 for an FD. You wouldn't be able to give away a V8 powered FD, even if it had 1000HP. Once that engine, tranny and rear end is in, the car is changed and scarred forever. Its much faster in a straight line, but much slower in everything else. A car is purpose built. Change one important component, everything changes. Even a 20B would drastically alter the car.

20B Swap can be done for less than 15K. You can research it and everything you find will be some guy that paid so and so to do it. In doing the work yourself, you save at least $5000. I know someone who spent $9000 Canadian on a 20B Swap. Hes only making 318RWHP, but its impressive none the less. He also put it into a 2nd Gen, where no kits are availiable to install it.

And I also witnessed a friends Turbo II he just finished. Hes got a Birdge-Port with a T-51 Turbo on his 13B. I dont know anything about Turbos but I can imediately say that this car will kill any V8 it comes up against on the street. Track might be a different story. Blew my Camaro away instantly.

As for the RX-8. Much too underpowered for its weight, but much more fun to drive than a Mustang. And Functional too. But if factory power is your beckon, there is only one choice, V8.

There is just something about the new mustang that makes me want to buy it in white, throw some blue racing stripes on it and have my own little GT350 look alike car.

I agree that the rx8 is underpowered from the factory, but nonetheless I still want one. if they make a mazdaspeed version of it, i think my gt350 dreams are gonna go to hell in favor of a rotary powered car.

Mazda Speed RX-8 is set to have no less than 300HP. No word on if its the new Twin Turbo setup or if its a Supercharger. Expect a Hood Scoop and much refined performance.

New mustang is pretty nice. I'd wait at least until the late 2006 or 2007's come out. Seem like alot, but wait till they work out the bugs. New engines always have problems. Never buy first model year.

Where did you get this info? i've been scouring everywhere i can think of to find something.

I have to wait until after I graduate college and get a job first. Im finishing up my junior year now, so i have at least one more year until i am going to be on the market for a new car. If i were to get the mustang though, i would definately wait for the 07 model year, the car is coming stock with 18" wheels then. the current stock 17"s look like ass in my opinion.

ya i thought it was stated that the mazdaspeed rx8 wouldnt have any performance mods to it? thought they were just gunna do body style and suspension work to it? at least for the first year that they're introduced.

i hope im wrong cause id love to see and own a factory turbo or supercharged rx8!! dont have to worry about the warranty!

Mazda told me when I bought my Miata about the RX-8. They said 300HP and 250 Tourque as a revised estimate. They never said weither it was going to be Turbo or Supercharged. Road and Track 'Speed' Magazine did an article (and cover) of a Research and Development Supercharged RX-8 that Mazda was working on. It looked exactly like the Mazdaspeed RX-8 that they had released concept pictures of. They never released information about the engine, other than it was supercharged. They also released an estimated 250HP and 165Tourque with the Supercharged Setup. The master engineer at Mazda said it may run on a new Independant Twin Turbo Setup, putting out 300HP. A much revised version of the Sequential Twins we are familiar with.

You wont find much on the web because Mazda is very secretive. Example. Look at the Mazdaspeed 6. Its coming out in like 2 months, if not already and we didnt get any information until january.

But then again, dont take anything I say likely, I could have made most of this up (boom07)

I really, really doubt that Mazda will make another forced induction rotary. The FD3S nearly bankrupted Mazda with the warranty claims.

I've actually ridden in a LS1 FD and the car is not a joke. It was originally a single turbo setup rotary (T76 I think)...425 hp to the wheels...owner got tired of rebuilding it over and over again. Now it's a 400 hp LS1 and it actually has torque. Curb weight and corner weights are not adversly affected.

I understand the argument about RX-7's and rotarys not being seperated. I have a GXL in my driveway right now and I would never put a V8 in it, but if tradition is the only thing holding your argument up you don't have much to debate on. Let's see a show of hands of the people that have actually ridden or driven a LS1 FD.

I've ridden in a 400 cui inch powered FC. Something like 330 whp. Its nice, but it just doesnt feel the same. Doesn't corner the same. Doesnt wind up the RPM's the same. Not that it doesnt do it well, its just the money you spend on a V8 swap, you can just drop a sick rotary in it. And if your friend kept rebuilding his engine, he was doing something wrong. I know guys that have put over 75,000 kms on a Perhiperal Port Rotary. PP rotarys are not expected to live past 20,000 kms. My Street Ported motor before I got it had 185,000kms. I rebuilt it and alls I really needed to replace was the rotor housings. Its street ported so you know it was driven hard. So far Im at 40,000kms with 110PSI compression on both rotors. Now thats REALLY good.

I didnt build the motor myself.

He does lots of track days. WOT at 170+ mph down the long front straight at VIR will take it's toll.

Well of course its not going to corner! its a 400 cui v8 made out of the heaveist materials known to man. Now the LS1 on the other hand is made out of aluminum. Hence the low weight gain. Those extra 200 lbs that you might add with a 400 cui v8 is a big difference than 25. Dont judge the ls1 from an engine that is not anything like it.

Expect better suspension, some exterior tweaks, better throtle response with some ECU tweaks which will bring the power to what it was supposed to be originally (250). There is rumor of I though a turbo, but I think that's a couple years out at least.

It will be around 300HP. They can't afford any less. With the New 400+ HP North American Skyline GTR around the corner and the new 400+ HP Supra on the way, they'd loose in bringing out with less than 300HP. As it stands at 238HP, its exactly as fast on the track as a 350Z. Or so 'Top Gear' says.

Two words again and again.... ROTARY EXPERIMENTAL

How would all of you rotary haters feel if I dropped a 20b in an F-body or Mustang? Most likely I would be chastised, people would say its blasphemy (sp?), they would say I am being sacreligious. A Japanese-scrap motor in a muscle car, why??? How do you think we feel when someone wants pushrods and pistons in an RX?????

20B is awesome period. Anyone who said they have driven one and didnt like it, they are full of crap and have never driven one. Theres absolutely nothing in the world that compares to driving a 20B. Its not that its fast or anything, its just that its like driving nirvana. Its just an indescribable experience.

Man, do you make this s*** up? I wouldn't waste my time. Sounds like you've driven every car in the world. 400hp NA Skyline (stfu), its already here, its called an Infiniti.
