USB Music Folders

I still like the ability to move only the songs that I want to listen to off a ripped CD to the flash drive and of course, there are some songs I don't want as well. But when they are all labeled, "track 1" etc. then I have no idea what that song is without at least listening to it for a few seconds. That few seconds of listening has to be done on every song in the ripped music folder before it is moved to the flash drive. So I usually move the entire album and then when I listen, I just bump past the songs that I don't want to listen to, each time.... It is annoying, but the price you pay I guess. And a quirky thing.... for some reason, when I ripped CDs a couple times the artist/album/song titles came along for the ride and all the songs are identified instead of just a track one designation.... Now, that does not happen and I THINK I have ripped them the exact same way????? So why did the information come along on some, and not others? Is there some kind of coding on the actual CD that prevents this?

I rip my cds to the hard drive, then I use Merge MP3 (not a sponsor) to make it all one track. Then, I use media human converter to change to mp3. I have mediamonkey too, which I've used to add album art. No doubt, once I figure it out, I will be able to cut some corners.

I'm not following. Normally when one goes through the ripping process the audio files are converted to MP3s and then stored onto the hard drive. This process is ripping.

It sounds like you are copying your CD's to the HD and then converting them to MP3 from there?

Normally, you'd use software that pulls info from Gracenote or other database, which is added to the files. By the way, that database also needs to be updated in the Mazda from time to time.

All I do is to put a musical CD from Goodwill or wherever, into my CD ROM drive and it begins the process immediately and says "ripping the first track" etc... and each track only takes a few seconds, whatever.... and then I find that folder on the hard drive and that is it.. the folder, in the past, had the name of the artist, but now, it has no name... just the number of songs/tracks listed... I have to listen to the first one to make sure it is the correct CD that I just ripped... I assume they are in MP3 format.... just looked and yes, they are MP3.... but no album lable and no song labels came with them... they are all in individual folders that I created with the title of the artist or collection.. in this case, Hits From 1969..... but then when you open that folder it says track 1, track 2 etc.... I would like to find a process or at least understand why it doesn't transfer the album/song information so picking and choosing songs to dump on a flash drive would be so much easier...

You're saying that all you do is to place the music CD (is Goodwill a band name? ;) ) into the computer's CD tray, close the tray, and the ripping process starts without any input from you?

If this is the case, at some point, someone told your computer to take this action each and every time a music CD is detected. At some point this option was selected and now the computer takes this action by default. You should change this to "ask what actions are to be taken" or something similar.

Where to change this option? I'm not 100% but I'm 90% sure, place a music CD in the tray and close it. If you can, cancel the ripping process. Now open File Explorer (if using Windows, if using a Mac, you're on your own) and right click on the CD player and select Properties. Look for Start Up options, or something like this. You can change the actions the computer takes when it sees a music CD somewhere in this section.

I'm combining all the tracks from the CD into 1 track to put on USB. I like to listen to my music one album at a time.

I'm betting that you are selecting "Artist" as the category list, rather than "Folder"...

"Folder" is the only option I can select and when I select it, all song titles are listed. All other Categories are greyed out. I'm using firmware version 70.00.367 and have a 64GB stick formatted as FAT32. I've seen conflicting things about compatibility above 32GB-could this be what's causing my issue? It's not like songs don't show up, just can't figure out how to get and artist folders to show up.

I got all of my songs to show up sorted by Artist by creating one folder on the root of the USB and adding all of the tracks to that folder without any subfolders. Does anyone know how to have it ignore "the" in artist names i.e. have The Beatles shows up under B instead of T? Is there something I can do in the metadata to change how it's sorted when shown on Mazda Connect?

BTW:
Although the maximum of 255 music files in one directory is mentioned in my owners manual, I now play 297 .mp3 files in one directory without any problems (even in random order).
My 2023 CX-5 has the "newer" infotainment system with 10.25" display.

IDK...I usually use random order playing, so this never comes up, OP.
That is, in my other car and truck, both Fords. Have not tried it on the cx5 yet.
But good info came of this for sure.

I finally tested it, and in my 2023 CX-5 with the second-generation infotainment system, a maximum of 500 music files per folder is supported.
