OK... we're learning but still am mystified by some aspects of the stereo..... We have had some success in the last week and have figured out the FM part of this and favorites etc..... but this question is about our preferred music using a USB flash drive. Here is the situation. We have a flash drive loaded with five albums... and the albums are in "folders" more less as we ripped them from CDs.... So we place the flash drive in the port.... do the "source" thing and the first folder opens up and starts playing track one..... and then track two etc... and we can rotate the main knob and move to another track in that folder if we don't like the song.... It's all good and the stereo is amazing.... however... in this case, we listened to all the tracks in the first album (folder) and the stereo then moved to track one of the second folder (album) and we didn't want to listen to any of the second folder tracks.... and tried to move to the third folder (album) but could NOT do this or figure it out... ....... we tried several knobs etc... and got nowhere.... we eventually moved through all the tracks on the second folder/album to the last song on the second track using the large knob and listened to the last song... and then it started with the third folder/album.... but... how if you have five folders/albums on the flash drive, how do you move from one folder, say, the first one, to the fifth one? Anybody? Thanks....

Following this thread because I'm having a similar problem, except mine read the USB stick once but won't anymore.
I suspect it has to do with either the way the flash drive is formatted or the audio file format. I've got a 512G stick with my CD collection ripped onto it in .flac format, and my F150 has no trouble with it. The CX-5 recognized one or two songs the first time I plugged it in but now I just get an error message.
I probably need to get a new flash drive, make sure it's formatted properly (what is the proper format???) and maybe re-rip some CD's in .mp3? Anybody know exactly what this has to be?

Well, first, you need to tell us what year your car is, since the radios have changed across model years and so has functionality.

I read the manual......... but it just doesn't get specific enough to address this question... although there is a reference to using the FF on the steering wheel which I will try next time but nothing specific about changing folders like we have on the Kia we own.. they address it specifically ..... My 2024 model shows a Folder menu beneath the Source List, this allows you to navigate the folder hierarchy and select a song to play.

Unless I missed it, that doesn't say anything about the disk or file formats the system requires. It talks a little bit about USB standards but basically just says "devices can be used which comply with 2.0/1.1" but also maybe kinda sorta 3.0 if the device is compatible with 2.0. I don't know what that means.
I've found the owner's manual to be confusing about a lot of things.
I don't know where I saw it, and maybe it wasn't even for the car stereo but my garage stereo???? I have read so much about this in the last week.... anyway.... what I found was that the Flash Drive had to be a FAT 32 and not an ex Fat 32... (ex meaning extensible)....... I bought a six pack of these ex units because they hold so much information... but need to actually put a few songs on one and try them in all the vehicles and garage/shop stereo...... but I also have a bunch of FAT 32 older flash drives that work really well..... and they also hold a ton of music... and I am guilty.... I don't have enough experience with the control system of the Mazda yet... just not enough time and you can read about it all day long but until you actually spend some time with it, it is confusing.... and impossible/dangerous in a moving vehicle.... but I will get there... thanks for all the advice and pictures of what I should try... swear that I tried that though already.....

Yeah I recall playing around with an older stick one day and not having any luck. All my files are .flac format, I probably need to rip something in .mp3 and see if that's the key but I haven't gotten to it yet.
In any event the error I was getting led me to believe that the flash drive couldn't even be read, not that it didn't like .flac files. Pretty sure I had reformatted that one to FAT32, but maybe not.
Kinda disappointing that at this point (this is in a 2024 Prem Plus) the software isn't plug and play. My 2019 Ford F-150 doesn't have this problem. I love this car but there are a lot of annoying little shortcomings like this that are so easily fixed.
This morning I am going to set up an older Flash Drive with about 20 songs from two different albums/folders, without the folders.... easy enough to do.... I am going to do this twice... once with a FAT 32 file system and once with a state of the art huge ex Fat 32 system as well and try both. Somewhere (again, I researched this to death) I read that the flash drive had limits on size to.... and fully expect the ex drive to fail..... but there is really only one say to find out.... but also want to goof off with what has been shown in some of the pictures posted here is well and thanks to everyone for taking the time. It was laughable on our last venture in the Mazda last week.... by the time we tried to get the flash drive to work the way we wanted it and did several interventions, we never did figure out how to advance to the next folder/album and arrived home... just the way it is sometimes. Thanks again....

I am a big fan of side window visors/ rain deflectors on most of my vehicles... so I bought a set for the Mazda and installed them.... on our first trip out on the highway, the air leak noise was awful.... and it was NOT just a little noise.... Since it was one of our first ventures I didn't know for sure if it was these units I installed or "normal" which I found hard to believe.... so I got out the heat gun, removed all four of the side window visors, and a couple days ago, we repeated the trip.... absolutely no air leak noise.. peace and quiet going down the road... and too late to get a refund or send them back to the Ebay seller.... live and learn...

Again, the Mazda Connect manual is pretty explicit (I guessed you missed it!). It states the following:

I ripped most of my CD collection onto 10 or so 32gb flash drives, all formatted with FAT32.
I don't remember where I read this but FAT32 is a requirement as is the max size of 32gb.
I have had zero problems with my drives and all work as intended.
I also believe that I read somewhere that at least one song needs to be in the root directory. That's how I've done it, and it works for me.

RedBaron shows in his posting about the Mazda Connect manual that the max. volume size is 2TB with FAT32.

FAT32 does not restrict the size of the usb stick but it restricts the file size to max 4GB. For music it is not a problem usually.
The problem is that Windows limits formatting in FAT32 to 32 GB. So for PC users you need to find a different formatting software to be able to use anything bigger than 32 GB.

Hmm... so if I have a USB stick bigger than 32GB, it won't format into FAT32? So if Mazda only accepts FAT32 then it's limited to a 32GB stick? But others say that's not true.
I'm very confused.
