USB Device

I have read the variuos posts about the USB Error messages and I haven't tried a thumb drive yet. What I have tried is pluggign in my LG G2 phone and the USB tab stays greyed out. Bluetooth works fine for Pandora but it doesn't recognize my phone as a USB device with music on it. Should it?

Same issue with my iPhone 6. My iPod will be recognized and plays fine. When I plug my iPhone in, the display just says "reading" and that's all that happens. Bluetooth works fine though.
