US Diesel's big splash introduction

Next time there is some sort of Mazda event, go up and ask the head honcho
...

..."Have you looked at the sales numbers of your CX-9? - and asked yourself why they're so low? Why don't you bring the CX-8 to North America with a turbo diesel and/or turbo gas; with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto?"

I'm hoping for a Detroit Auto Show reveal of the CX-5 diesel sale date, but not holding my breath.

Onno, I was very intrigued with the 2019 qx50 until i said to myself hmm wonder what tranny they're going with as they didn't make it obvious but there it was those 3 little letters that will almost certainly kill serious interest for me..other than that i like it. I would consider a current gen rwd qx50 lease if I could find one but they do like fuel alot. Will I drive it, definitely yes maybe more than once to be sure, would i buy it almost definitely no..like the alfa its a lease at best (safety first:))

Cx9 sales are disappointingly low, its got the moves and the looks but its small for its class and most ppl buy them for spaciousness without being stuck in a minivan, that and the turbo 4 may turn away some, resale vs Toyota and Honda offerings also kinda poor. Fine vehicle one of the best to drive in class for sure but at EOD its numbers challenged, it just is. Drop in the diesel and now its upwards of 35hwy with improved towing capability and sales get a nice shot in the arm i would think. Hoping for something from the motor city but readying for battle @nyc if mum is still the word(enguard)

Yes, my fear too is the CVT transmission. If this QX50 delivers significantly on its "diesel like" torque promise, and mates up OK with the CVT, I'm interested.

If the 2019 Kia Sorento turbo diesel ships in March/April, that may be my easy solution (tweaner size, value, driving dynamics, multiple dealers to shop).

CX-9 sales are low because:

  • The consumer is ignorant
  • Mazda is not promoting it enough
Again Apple Car Play/Android Auto won't make that much of a difference in sales. They exist in lots of rubbish vehicles that don't sell well.

If CX-9 sales are low then the appeal to buy is low, nothing to do with being ignorant or lack of promotion.

Its been a long time since a CX-5 has been advertised in the UK, but they still sell.

Monty- herb chambers Infiniti Boston

Leases

QX50. Starts @ $299/mo $0 down. 70 total to choose from
QX70. Starts @ $325/mo. $2,999 down. ~17 to choose from

Just sayin' since you mentioned them above.

New QX50 doesn't interest me much due to tranny and FWD set up. Funky new engine sounds interesting but don't wanna be a guinea pig/beta tester.

Word. Blizzard is just starting!

The thing with the QX50 is that once you add things like lane departure warnings, etc, the price gets close to 45K real fast. I personally have always lusted after a QX70.

Current QX50 is a bit too small for my tastes. Plus I don't like the design styling as much as the QX70. But the ads state ~20% off MSRP for both models if you purchase instead of lease. So a $45k QX50 is about $36k. Not sure if one could squeeze them for any more.

That is not a bad deal. And it is inexpensive to service a Infiniti as compared to a BMW or Audi. But you are right concerning the QX50, it is small even compared to the CX-5.

Thanks yeah I know there's some pretty nice lease deals on them..I got 8 more mos w/bimmer @249 so not in any rush

Yeah it was real shitting coming in today near blizzard once I got to central Westchester co..some dumb motherlovers in FWDs w/bad tires (anything not AWD better have winters strapped on today or you're basically that asshole)- probably shouldn't take Anderson ^HILL^ road now should ya? CX5 did fine going around such dumb fks endangering both them and me although my Dunlop Wintersports have seen better days- dicey coming out of the driveway they're probably at 5-6/32nds so tough call but they're still ok.

Melvin Hubert MPA..nice one from Wyoming (of all places)...word to your moms:)

Sorry if I offended. For me, the CX-9 is too long, certainly for the delivered interior space. (Look at the new VW Atlas, interior/exterior.) Just my opinion, based on my wanting something a bit bigger than the CX-5, with turbo.

The announced 2019 Infiniti QX50 promises more roominess than the current model. The variable compression is a big unknown, maybe it delivers the torque similar to a diesel; maybe not. Maybe the "new" CVT will pair well.

Infiniti and its high volume dealerships seem to offer good lease packages, with the leased amount far below MSRP, and attractive money factor (MF) rates.

Hope all our right coasters are fairing ok..this was a rough one especially considering our initial forecast was 1-3"/2-4.. My ride in ranked among the worst in nearly 20 winters..mostly due to bad timing and some serious wind. 5er performed admirably but I damn near beached it getting into my driveway this evening the bank was that high and i was not bashful, proceeded to plow the snow going down it so we got alot closer to 1' than a few bs inches. Stay safe, stay warm guys few more days till this s*** breaks...now about that diesel update hell how bout a 2018 configurator Mazda..seriously wtf?

I ended up taking the day off. I almost went to work in the morning before the snow started, but by about 10AM I was glad I didn't. The wind blew hard all day where I live, keeping around 30 mph from noon till midnight and blowing gusts of 45-50 in the evening. We ended up with a foot of wind packed snow. From a snowfall point of view, it wasn't such a bad storm, but the high wind makes it hard to be out. Luckily there were very few power outages.

Yeah, the 2019 looks wider and longer than the current car but it is still not that big - only about the size of a CX-5. Also, no CarPlay. (first)

But it does look nice and I love the options for interior and exterior colors.

The exterior of the 2019 QX50 looks good, but that's probably because it looks like a Mazda rip-off. The interior looks nice too, but I'm not a fan of that two-screen infotainment setup.

The discounts on the current model are immense, but it's basically a 2008 EX35 with more chrome and a stretched back seat. A couple that we're friends with both have EX35s and I think they are boring on the outside and fugly on the inside.

The interior of the CX-5 and Alfa Romeo Stelvio are very similar. The 2019 QX50 interior look busy.

The exterior of the 2019 QX50 looks like a mash up blend of CX-5, Alfa Romeo Stelvio, and their current QX60.

By the time you guys get the diesel, our 2.2 Twin Turbo Direct Injection Diesel would have moved up from 129KW (173BHP) / 420NM (310 FT/LB) version to 140KW (188BHP) / 450NM (332FT/LB) version.
