Upped Boost for One Night

I'm currently peaking at 12psi and holding at 10psi on my MSP's stock T25 setup. I've been challenged by a modded RSX and was wondering what danger there is in upping the boost to about 14 peak/12psi steady for one night when we go at it. It's not much of an increase, but I don't want to blow something by getting too greedy.

Well I was starting to detonate at around 9psi, but thats on 91 octane w/o colder plugs...I dunno if 12 psi for one night would be bad or not. Guess it depends on mods, temperature, etc...

Thats cool...i ordered colder plugs, but i need to figure out how to install them..was it difficult?

Race fuel won't hurt if your going to run that much boost. I don't want to hear about a kaboom so I would get some c16 or whatever.

ive been running about 10-11 psi with spikes at 12 occasinally
no problems sor far
93 octane and colder plugs too
go rip him a new arse

You don't have to get C16. A few gallons of 104 or 108 Octane will do if you don't feel secure in if your engine will hold together. Yeah, and rip him a new one.

im now boosting at 9psi, and it spikes to 10 orr 11( with the a/c on) sometimes. Is it required replacing the spark plugs? and why?

OH and if required.. or reccomended? What plugs?

You mean the octane boosters that raise your octane a few points? As in points they dont mean 91 up to 94, they mean 91 to 91.4. Grab some toluene if you cant find racing fuel.

Spicy! Have you not read any of the 1500+ articles about the plugs? If they are correct, the colder plugs are not *required*, but they will prevent detonation. Plus they're copper not platinum, which JoeP said we need to get away from.

I am referring to the Joe P MBC.

I'm kinda on the same track as Steph here...I'm at 10psi, peaking at 12, with the stock plugs. The weather here in Northern Cali is floating around the 95-100(sometimes more) mark every day. I've not gotten any pinging at all. Oh, and I'm only running 91, which is the best we have here. I will be getting the plugs as soon as I find them, but am I risking it by holding out on them?? My car runs fine right now....

I don't think there's a large amount of danger in leaving them in unless you start to notice the detonation. However, I'd rather put in 4 $2 spark plugs than have to buy a whole new engine. Yanno?

ya thanks again for the info. are there any plugs reccomended?

also a friend of mine,, told me that when you increase the boost on a car, the fuel computer has to be reset... any thoughts?

I found to look for NGK BKR7E-11's, which were like $1.98 each at Napa. One heat range cooler with copper.

I don't personally see how this makes sense if you think about electronic boost controllers. The whole convienience point would be defeated if you had to reset the computer everytime you change it.
