Updated Warranty Extension to 7 years/84k miles for entire powertrain on Mazdas with valve stem seals issue

Hot off the presses. For any 2021 vehicle that falls into the special service campaign for the exhaust valve stem seal oil consumption issue, the extended powertrain warranty has been updated to include ANY issue with the powertrain components listed in the owners warranty manual and NOT JUST any issues caused by the faulty valve stem seals and replacement. This includes everything the factory warranty on the powertrain normally covers

The new extension is upgraded to 7 years, 84k miles, up from the standard 5 year 60k miles factory warranty. I have attached documentation from Mazda outlining this. Again, This is only for vehicles that fall into the special service campaign for the valve stem issue.

Also, an oil consumption test is NOT required to have the seals replaced. Do not let them tell you otherwise. It is instructed in the dealer letter to their service dept personnel that it is NOT required and to do the repair if the customer asks.
Hope that helps all.

Haven't seen that document before, but it is also explained in this video from August 2024.

Hey, the video is good but talks only about the issue and remedy. The warranty extension per the class action lawsuit and campaign USED to be an extended powertrain for only issues related to the exhaust valve stem seal fix and not the entire powertrain. Now, it has been updated as of August 2025 to include the ENTIRE powertrain regardless if it had anything to do with the valve stem seals being defective. That is HUGE because it covers everything that is listed in the owners warranty manual for powertrain that is normally covered for 5 years 60k miles but has now been extended to 7 uears 84k miles. The previous extension was JUST for future damaged components related to the faulty valve stem seals which sucked. Now it is everything regardless of reason.

Hi! New here and wanted to ask this group. My 2021 CX5 valve seal work is being done this week. However my Mazda service team is adamant that my powertrain warranty will NOT be extended. They said that Mazda would have updated it in their system and to call Mazda if I have questions. Does this sound right? Thanks!

Welcome!! Your dealer is either ignorant or misinformed. My suggestion would be to print out the updated letter I attached and show them. If your vin number is affected by this special campaing then your warranty is automatically extended.

Thanks so much! 3 different service managers said that the powertrain warranties were not being extended other than to cover the repairs. I even showed them this thread and they said nope. So it’s frustrating- you would think they would know! Thanks again!

Ur welcome! They clearly need to learn how to read then. Problem is they just don't care to help customers any longer. The dealer experience is an abomination today. You have to fight for EVERYTHING even when the facts are in their face.

I loved Mazdas from my old RX7 days and really enjoy the more “spirited” driving feel of the CX5 versus other SUVs. But as my family is on our third Toyota 4 Runner with zero mechanical issues, I am starting to question my decision. 😀. Really appreciate your notes. Thanks again!
