UPDATE: Ion FMIC installed

i was wondering this because im trying to decide on whether i should get a smic or fmic but i heard that smic is around a 13 whp gain.. if its only 2 hp off of a fmic.. and save 400 dollars.. why not just go with the fmic? BUT, i MIGHT boost.. so i have no idea what i should do.. but then again this is all in the future.. =T haha
Im just going off one dyno.. I have no clue what the conditions were... what gear or anything. Everyone is going to list their product at a higher gain than what you are probably going to see. I bought mine because it was opportune and cheaper than ion's at the time. I like jack's kit a lot and for anyone who can afford it, id say get it. Im not big on SMIC's but, do what ever you feel is right. That way you never lose.

MazdaSpeeder00 - The reason why we're using the results that Turbo Magazine got from testing our parts is b/c it is a 3rd party un-biased test. The car is the same, the dyno facilities are the same, all the variables are cut to a minimum. The trends that they showed are exactly what we got. One thing that they didn't do was to run the stock I/C to point of heat soak, but you could see that there was a trend of decreasing power after every run. Under in-house testing, we weren't able to even heat soak the car after our FMIC was installed (well over 20+ runs).

I wasnt implying anything.. Im just talking in general.. Dynos are hard to go off of unless all products are tested at the same time at the same place..

Many dyno facilities are different and so its just hard to say.

But Jack my friend, I have no doubts that you make a fine product!

Ion will I need to replace my radiator to a p5 radiator if i use your intercooler just as said in the article turbo magazine published about installing your intercooler? I am seriously concidering ordering your FMIC and i just want to get all the facts straight to know that im getting the best part i can get for my car.

Im not for sure on this....but i dont think you need to, but i think it still leaves the option of being able to.

You dont need to replace the rad, the great thing is that you can change it if you want later, one of the benefits of the ION IC. There is a GB for the FMIC on right now in the AV GB section so if your interested sign up ;)

yeah, what he said. You don't NEED to replace your radiator. I have been running with my stock radiator and my ION intercooler for a long time without problem. But I had the funds and better cooling is always good so I decided to for the AWR. Plus when you replace the radiator you don't have two intercoolers in your car anymore and no one can make fun of you ;)

ION Performance how much is your FMIC kit and how much is your CIA? How much WHP will my car increase by installing your parts? I am seriously leaning more towards purchasing your kit due to all the rave reviews I have been getting from the people that have already purchased it . I just want to get all the facts and what better way to get that information than right from the horses mouth.

Jrodhotrod- where did you pick up your Radiator at i think that once i change my IC that i am going to want to change my radiator.

The reason why people change their radiator from the MSP one to a P5 one is because its bigger. With the FMIC it blocks the radiator, so some people will see a slight rise in engine temps. Just a precaution to take, and a very good one at that.

Wow! My ears are burning!!! Damn you vodapa77! Mazdaspeed0020 here is some pics of my Injen and Ion FMIC setup. The IC pipes are powdercoated to match the Injen. Only thing I added was a 3/4 hose and a straight thread fitting that is 1/2 inch (fits in the 3/4 hose fine) and hose clamps as you can see in the first picture. It's charged air from the cold side of the IC going through the bpv recirclulating back to the Injen. It's easy to add, just go to a local hardware store.:D The right angle fitting came with the FMIC kit.
Thanks for the pics and the info. From everything I have heard this is probably the best setup. I really really need to get one.

What a great day!! As I was finishing my detailing today(claybar and Meguiar's 3 step system), the UPS man showed up with my Ion FMIC:D
I'm tired as hell from all that waxing and buffing, but I'm ripping off my bumper and getting started on the install. I'll post pics tomorrow afternoon to show off the car and the intercooler.

Wooot! Alex your gonna love it. Just be careful when taking that bumper off, give yourself a good full day to do it. A holesaw and sawzall will make the cutting easier, just watch the lines behind the sheetmetal on the passenger side.

so the ION kit requires some cutting, and the hiboost kit does not(uhm) ?

I can't speak to the hi-boost kit, but there is a minimal amount of cutting to be made with the ION kit. It allows for the most direct piping run, less pressure loss, and all the cutting is of sheet metal that is non-load bearing.

anyone got the instructions??
I've got the intercooler bolted up, but that's all so far....

This is good advice 2K3 Mazdaspeed.:D Watch out for the bumper clips under the corner of the headlights. There a pain in the a$$. Holesaw and sawzaw is what I used also. Make sure you insulate the holes you cut or you might get some pipe rattle. I had to go back and do mine, but after that it was fine. Good Luck! If you have any probs, just PM me.

Alex, still need instructions? Just reply to me email if you need them, they are a little over a megabyte so you need to be able to accept a large attachment.
