Universal exhausts!!!!

are there any disadvantages or advantages of having a universal exhaust? (dunno) Im planning on getting a custom exhaust for my 3 but dont know if i should get a universal or just wait till the exhaust systems come out for the 3......any one know when they come out?

difference is, usually custom exhaust isn't mandrel bent but costs ALOT less.

your generallly better off going for an exhaust that was specifically built for the car. just because its an aftermarket exhaust doesnt mean you will absolutly gain any horsepower out of it. heck u could even lose some.

car back Exhaust for the mazda 3 is coming out by magnaflow in a month or less. goto www.magnaflow.com for more info. They told me it will be 450-550, then if you locate a dealer near you its cheaper (thats what my dealer said he can get me 50-100 off on what their price is on the net) , so 350 for cat back and 450 some installed, not bad. I would expect a gain of atleast 10 hp.

Yeah, chopping and welding work is involved.

Yeah i think ill just wait for the exhaust for the 3 comes out because not only i want the nice deep sound but the gains are the most important.

i think the fact that u won't be gaurenteed any hp gains would be a big enough disadvantage.

You also can't read reviews unless someone else has installed the same one, to make sure that it doesn't sound ricey. (ricer) If you are actually look for horsepower gains, install a turbo and then get a turbo muffler. These open-ended mufflers that most people have aren't actually designed to work well with turbos where you need smaller pipes and scavaging.

Disadvantage? More often than not, very little to no gain, if not a drop in hp, as someone mentioned earlier - as you're only dealing with a catback exh. anyway (so it shouldn't be too terribly expensive), I'd wait if it were me...
