I recently wrote to Unichip trying to get more ACCURATE information about the Corksport, Pineapple Racing Unichip. I was very concerned with sending the unit back to be reprogrammed. Jack is an awesome guy and I thought I would relay the information he presented me and a copy of a dyno chart from Dastek (makers of Unichip).
The reply goes as follows -
Ben,
Thanks for the inquiry. We are actually just about to release a Plug-n-Play kit for the MazdaSpeed Protg which should be ready to ship in about two weeks. I've attached a dyno sheet for one of the mule configurations we've already mapped. The kit can be purchased pre-programmed and our experience is that it will run just fine when you
snap it in.
As far as future modifications go, we support our customers via a reprogramming service with two different options. First, you can send the module back to us for reprogramming (and either disconnect the PnP harness or put a bridge plug over the Unichip connection on the PnP harness either of which returns the ECU back to a stock state) or you can do a core exchange in which we send you a new computer and credit you when we
receive yours back.
The problem with end user tuning isn't necessarily that the end user can't tune, but that (1) you/I want the car to run well under all conditions... which standalone ECU vehicles typically don't - they normally run ok at idle and well at full load, and (2) our map densities are much greater than a "typical" piggyback (like on the order of 200+ times as many data sites) which makes tuning it on the street a very difficult proposition.
From my perspective, if it doesn't get tuned well, it's not performing well, and that reflects poorly on my product.
If there's someone around who's a likely candidate to be a local tuner, please have them get in touch with me... becoming a dealer isn't that difficult for a shop with a dyno.
Please let me know if I can answer any additonal questions.

There is a copy of the dyno in the attachements. This is on a STOCK Mazdaspeed. I really think we all need to get together and support this project. Its an awesome product and a great price that is PROVEN to work.
Notice on the dyno that this is a STOCK Mazdaspeed with curves in YELLOW and the Unichip Mazdaspeed is in RED.
