Unhappy with HKS Sound

I bought a HKS SSQV kit last week. I have it installed with the Mazdaspeed CAI. I removed the tri-star insert in the end of the BOV to add the reserculation hose because I don't want to VTA. I don't really have the signature HKS sound I was looking for when it vents. It sounds more like really bad compressor flutter. So I'm sort of dissapointed in the setup. I'm thinking of making a new BOV insert that includes a recirculation nub and the tri-star HKS thingy. Does anyone think this will make a differance or have any experiance with these new BOV's sounding differently than the old ones?

Your wheels look hot, those are the first ms wheels I have seen on a black mica. As for the BOV I have heard a video with the same setup you have and I agree the BOV sounds like it is fluttering. I am not into that sound either. Not sure what you can do about it though.

From the HKS site "All vehicle specific Super SQV kits include both the HKS Triple Fin Sound insert and Recirculation insert" sounds like I need to hit the shop to make these two act as one! If it works I maybe I can produce them for everyone. And thanks Dread I love the rims!

have you tried using the stock bov with the cai. I can hear mine and it doesn't flutter, but its not very loud. Do you have any more pics of your car, you are making want to buy those rims.

those rims are nice but the are alot...i had that in mind too ...some how cut the vta insert and put it inside the recirc insert to add more sound...would be interesting to hear how it turns out....lets us know how it turns out

yea but thats half ass recirc....the car is supposed to run recirc and 50/50 doesnt cut it jsut for sound...when i run vta the car stumbles on shifts and backfires alot...recirc all the way for this car

when i use it recirc its perfect......vta is jsut when i want to shoot video or something which i have been recently.....

Ok well I made videos of what I'm talking about. I'll have them posted wednesday or thursday. The VTA sounds great, but of course the drivability is an issue.

I really don't think putting the fin insert into the recirc fitting will give you the sound you are looking for. I barely noticed a difference going from the standard 3-fin insert to the purple "low tone" insert. It's still ridiculously, obnoxiously loud. I'm using a direct vacuum source right off the intake manifold for mine (not a Mazdaspeed3 though obviously). Are you guys all using a stock one? Where does the stock vacuum source go? (screwy)

If it sounds like loud flutter it definitely isn't hooked up right.

I am a mechanic by trade. The factory bov line is used. The car has 910 miles today. The chances I have it hooked up wrong are slim. I'll have the vids up in a few hours when I get home from work. I think that the differance should be pretty audible.
