My Mazdaspeed 2003.5 orange protege is fine and it drives fine. It only under idles when i come to a stop or when i rip it and throw it into neutral. It under idles so far that its about to stall then it goes back to normal. Sometimes it goes so far that it feels like the car stalls and then turns back on. Otherwise its good. I was told by mazda it could be either my timing or my computer but i doubt it. Other people say it could be my egr but im not sure. If someone can help that would be great. Thanks alot

is the stock bpv hooked up still or are you running a bov vta and if its not that it could be a loose intercooler pipe. please list mods because i owned one before so i will try to help you even though youre in the wrong section.

thats weird that you mention that. my ES does that too every once and a while (im not boosted)

for example, today i was pulling into school and it sounded like it was about to stall. i looked at the tach and it showed something like 400 rpms for about a second then it went back to normal

do u have a blow off valve? if so is it recirculating or blowing off asmospherically? could be ur maf sensor!

Have you checked your EGR valve? I was having the same problem, I took mine off cleaned it out and car runs much better. This was after I replaced my plugs, cleaned my MAF...nothing seamed to work. Not that difficult to remove and clean, worth as try.

had the same problem, did the wastegate check by blowing in the tube going to the wastegate and was able to blow thru a little but. so i knew it was shot, replaced it and the car hasent died since. oh and also i cleaned my EGR twice and that did not help anything, although that can be a reason to why my car was doing what it was, but it turned out that it was the wastegate.

Just had my Speed6 in the shop for the same idling issues. It was there for 2 weeks having a new MAF installed, and the clutch fix. There were no CELs at the time, but the car would idle really low, jump, and often times stall. Turns out mine was the EGR. They couldn't figure it out until it completely went and a CEL was thrown. Hope this helps!

Have you tried cleaning the Throttle body. Get some Carb Cleaner, take the cold pipe off from the intake manifold, spray some carb cleaner into the intake mani and clean all around inside of it while pushing on the throttle to open it and clean inside of it also. lastly blow into the intake mani to remove any gasses from the carb cleaner then put it back together and see if it runs well.

I have an 03.5 msp too and i've noticed this issue. usually does it when i just start it up. hot or cold start. keep in mind there's only 10k on mine.

did i read that right.....03.5 with 10k?????HOW???do you just take it out everyother weekend for 2 miles.....well if you don't run it much and just short drives...carbon will actually build up quicker

a lil'....sounds like he kept it in the crib......

but seriously if it only does real short runs.....it's build up cause the motor won't get hot enough to burn out some carbon and other build up......replace your plus and run cleaner through your system......i've read seefoam works good....haven't tried that yet but i will.....and i had the same prob....cleaned out the egr valve and no more

well i dont drive very much either but so far i've put about 1400 miles on it since i bought it back in august...yea it only had 8900 ish miles when i bought it. i practically busted a nut when i saw it.

yeah i would to.....every now and then go for a long drive and burn through a half a tank of gas in one whack.....it's better to drive 100 miles straight than 2

below the throttle body......if you pull all the piping you and get to it...kinda hard but you can....while you're at it just take off the whole throttle body and clean it too

edit: not all the piping....just what's going to the TB
