UK CX-7 Pricing - Ouch!

I'm up in Michigan and just bought a CX-9 AWD GT, and very pleased (cabpatch). But I have an office in the UK as well and I was there a couple of weeks back. I noticed the Mazda dealerships have CX-7's now, but check this out:

USA Pricing (CX-7 AWD Sport with metallic paint, Auto Trans) = $25,450
UK Pricing (CX-7 AWD MZR (sport?) with Met. paint, MANUAL trans) = GB24,335

Now the UK prices includes tax (17.5%) whereas the US one needs an additional 6% (in MI). Accounting for that (uhm), and using today's exch rate you get:

US = $26,997
UK = $48,816

Both cars were made in Japan, with is a little bit further away than the US, but all the same, if Mazda are making (say) 15% profit on selling the CX-7 in the US, they must be ROTFL(lol) with the money that they get from the UK!!!! And no, I don't think it costs $21819 per vehicle to convert to right hand drive either.

It is a well known fact that everything in the UK is priced the same as US items. So if a car here is 20K, the car there is price at 20K. So, yes if we were to buy a car in the UK with US cash then we are getting royally screwed. I have to go there on business all the time and always have to multiply everything I buy by 2 to know what I am spending in US currency. It is crazy but the people in the UK dont know any better.

Looks like you should be using my avatar, 007?

Re: the UK car pricing, it's a cartel, that's clear. Mind you, out of curiousity I looked at Mazda France. The price for a CX-7 there is Eu37,000 (again, Manual, 2.3ltr engine etc). Thats 'just' $51,282. Weird!

I couldnt even imagine owning a CX7 in the UK even with the manual... @ $8 (US) per gallon, that is crazy talk with the MPG this gets with the turbo

Well, I'm here (in the US) for only 5 years but was living in France before.

You know why you cannot find a lot of automatic car in Europe?

Because an auto gearbox will increase your mileage by 1 Liter / 100 Km minimum. You can actually reach better gas mileage with a manual gearbox than with an auto one...

So, a manual gearbox will make more sense if you want to save money...

Yeah some people here would want a manual for the fun factor, but theres not enough demand for a manual gearbox with us "lazy" Americans, I can't help it if I don't want to shift!(evil) I don't think most of the people buying the CX-7 would want one either.

Cars up here in Canada are overpriced, too. A CX-7 GT AWD starts at $37,295 CAD ($36,250 USD).

My previous vehicle was even worse... S2000 is $50,600 in Canada ($49,190 USD).

Why wouldn't anyone? the CX-7 has a boring sounding 4 cyl. motor, If I had this in Stick, I'd enjoy it more by double clutching or matching revs when downshifting. At least it'll sound more lively. With the new flash they did on mine (lag is less noticeable), the Tranny is LESS sporty than ever, theres barely any torque lock-up, and you can't really feel it shifting. I find my self using the M mode more now.

Because not everyone wants to shift all the time, just like sometimes I get in my car and I don't want to do jackshit. A sport mode for the transmission would be great, and has a bigger chance of happening, and I dunno, I lay in the throttle and the CX-7 feels pretty sporty.

I have to admit, as much as I love manual transmissions, I don't know if I'd want one in a CX-7.

There are pro's and con's for sure. When it comes to being lazy after a long day, the auto is great. But on the flip side, can't beat the safety and control of a manual transmission.

I had to buy something with auto because my wife can't and won't drive standard. If I could buy something with a manual I would have bought a Speed 6. So the CX-7 with manual would never be considered.

In Estonia you will get a Elegance (Basic or Sport) version -> www.mazda.ee
with 449000 EEK (estonian kroons)
it includes 18% Value added tax
and considering the current exhange rate it makes about 39700 USD (protest)
