TX license plates??

Just thinking...

Are we required to have the plates on front and back? I'd hate to put it back on the front and mess up that purdy smile. I'd also hate to get a ticket.

yes.

Most cops don't care if you use suction cups and place the plate up in the front windshield, Fast & Furious style.

If you don't get what I'm saying, look here.

Some cops when they stop you will say you need to put it on the front of the car, but I haven't heard of someone getting a ticket for it unless they really piss the cop off with their attitude or something like that.

Remember, cops know what's going on. They've done it, they've seen it, they just know. Don't be an ass and be cool with them and most of the time, they'll do the same.

i didnt run one on the front, i had it on my windshield...

got pulled over for that and that only, got a ticket

took a day off of work (lost money) , spent like 5 hours downtown on my court date in the musty humid courtroom, took forever just to find a parking spot

finally got the ticket dismissed and paid like $30 processing fees

after all of that, i now run a plate in the front. too much hassle for that.

youll see cops dont care if u dont run one if you have a plain old car, but as soon as you started dressing it up etc, u attract more attention

not to mention....the cops WILL pick on modded imports...they think we are a bunch of young street racers...

next time you are out running around on 610 or the beltway....or just walking through a parking lot at the mall....start looking at the front ends of Vettes......I CHALLANGE you to find one that has a front plate....you won't find one....not a single one....and if you were to talk to the owners....I would bet you $100 they never got pulled over for it either......

BUT.....to directly answer your question...YES...its the law in texas you have to run both front and rear plates

I got a $75 ticket for no front tag tacked on to my speeding ticket from Houston's revenue enhancement division. I gave to cop absolutely no attitude and he gave me no mercy.

i can name several cars that roll with no plates in the front...the new 300z, G35, even the new grand prix... mainly 03 models but still, if they're gonna give out tickets they should be consistant.

Audi TTs do not have front bumper license plates either. (uhm)

A friend of mine drives a '96 Prelude in Houston. Lowered with nice 17" rims. He told me he was pulled over and ticketed by a police for not having front license plates... and he is not the street racing type or someone who would find it interesting to break the traffic laws.

In Houston, I think the police there are just out to hassle some of the drivers who look like "potential" illegal street racers... or just a driver who looks like they would do wild and crazy stupid things on the road with their modified cars.

I've driven to Houston often and have been lucky so far without having to be stopped for not having my plates up front. I have been stopped while driving down south Texas for not having front plates though... but at that time it was around the 911 incident, so I understood the reasons. I didn't get a ticket, the officer just asked that I put my plate on the front dashboard (cuz I explained to him that I had no holes drilled on my front bumper. :D).

If you sell cars in Texas they have to have provisions for a front tag. Many are ugly, crude brackets and owners just elect not to use them. In one 30 minute drive across the west side of Houston I counted 60+ cars without front tags. (my wife was driving) That was when I decided it was safe to go without. Most Houston cops will ignore it. It's the traffic enforcement division guys who will hassle you. Their mission is to write tickets. River Oaks is particularly full of offenders.

My wife drove a Plymouth mini-van for about 10 years without a front tag with no problem - we bought it from an Oklahoma dealer. Would I go without in a P5? Maybe pure stock in a conservative color.

If you don't like the law see if you can get the Democrat legislators to come back from New Mexico and change it. :D

Ding-ding-ding! We have a winner. My '89 Celica was old, boring, and the paint was dull white. I ran without a front plate in Dallas for maybe 4 years without a problem. I don't know what it takes to get pulled over in Dallas, but I'm past the age where I'd bother finding out...
