**note: I am crossing posting coz' I didn't get an answer from the Buy/Sale forum**

I am ready to get the SS kit from them, I want the 2nd gen but I don't know which one to order for the MSP. any idea??

is it the 1999-2003 Protege and Protege 5 (Part# MP9903SA) or the 2001-2003 MP3 (Part# MP30103SA)???

Do a dearch on if the MSP and MP3 shifters are threaded the same, that will tell you which one you need. The only difference between the two SS's are the threading. The MP3 came with a different threading but if I remember correctly the MSP is the same as the regular protege. I am not sure thats why I suggested a search on the threading.

Hope that helps, I just ordered one for my P5 once I heard of the sale.

The MP3 and the MSP use the same shifter with an M8 x 1.25 thread. The sedan and P5 shifters are the same with an M10 x 1.25 thread.

Careful though...The TWM shifters are not the same other than the threading...The MP3 shifter uses different threading and a different top portion to allow a longer ergonomic type knob (which came stock on the MP3)...The P5/Sedan shifter has a shorter threaded portion for use of a smaller knob (like the stock golf ball on 02 P5's and sedans)...

This was from an email over a year ago...They told me that if you plan on only using the stock P5 knob, get the P5 shifter...But if I was going to use a taller universal knob that uses set screws like Momo's, get the MP3 shifter...If you use a bigger shift knob on the P5 TWM shifters you won't be able to thread it deep enough into the knob to keep the really low appearance...You also risk creating some play in the shift knob, becuase the shifter is only able to extend a half inch or so into the knob...This is really confusing and hard to explain...go to their web page and look at the pic differences between the two shifters...the pics of the two shifters laying beside each other show the differences on the knob mounting portion...You can easily see how the MP3 one has a longer neck for a deeper shift knob...

Correct me if I am wrong Install, I ordered the protege 5 /sedan TWM short shifter....I am about to order a new shift knob, but now this worries me since you say 'it may not fit". If I were to buy a sparco knob would it have to be a "golf ball" knob or could I get another? (confused myself just now
:D )

I ordered a shifter from TWM and it's great. It has the same threading as stock (which is M10 x 1.25) , but the threads on the stock knob are set pretty high up in the knob, so the stock knob wouldn't fit (but you can always make it work as a universal). I know it's M10 because the first aftermarket knob I ordered was an M8 and that didn't work, so I ordered an M10 and it's perfect.

I have an MSP, and I got the second gen MP3 shifter.

Your best bet would be to email TWM directly and see what they can do for you. They're very good at returning email and are very helpful.

Just a side note, while you're at it, order the Kartboy bushings and change them, too. It's simple as pie and makes a BIG difference.

Albert, why aftermarket knob did you buy if you even bought one....I also ordered the kartboy bushings but I really need to find a shifter that will fit and look nice at the same time. I guess I will need thr m10 kind so if anyone knows of a knob that will fit it and look nice please post

I got this knob:

from here .

They have a ton of knobs, priced really good(!), and can thread it to whatever you want. They are pre-threaded, but they give you an insert threaded to whatever specs you ask for.

I can take some pics of it installed (I have both the large and small ones (don't ask)) and can take pics of both if ya want.

I have the TWM in my P5. My stock (P5) knob fits, and so does this aftermarket (Mazda Threaded, per GReddy) knob..

Sucks! I just ordered my TWM ss and it wont get shipped out until Nov.12th because of SEMA!! ahhhh :'(

Sic03...Any set screw aftermarket knob will still work...You just won't be able to mount the knob quite as low as you would with the MP3 TWM SS...It is so hard to explain what I mean...but basically the bottom part of the stock knob or an aftermarket knob will both rest on the same "shelf" and the height difference will be made by the overall height of the knob itself...It will make a minimal difference overall...But I hate the stock golf ball, and have no intentions of ever using it again...so I will be ordering the MP3 shifter so the shelf on the shifter will allow me to mount the Momo knob I have a little lower...(the shifter neck is longer and the shelf is lower, so it can "penetrate" the knob farther, which overall makes it rest a little lower on the shifter)...
