TWM Short Shifter plus........

I have an '08 Spd3.......anyone fitted the TWM short shifter assy? Thoughts and opinions on this conversion please? Also, there seems to be a lot of play in the engine assy when changing up in the gears.......it sounds like the entire engine/xmission assy is clunking backwards/forwards as the drive takes up. I seem to recall reading something about an improved engine or gearbox mount. Would this be a likely cause/fix? This car has only done 13k miles and I've had it from new.

my opinion if your referring to the actual entire assembly they offer, it's a WASTE of money. You're better off with a shifter plate or just the short shifter. I had just the SS since they day it was available and it worked great, talked to a few members who bought the "assembly" and they all said they couldn't tell the difference just the price.

As to your problem, I have never heard of anyone having that issue, I would double check your install just to be sure the shift linkage was adjusted properly.

Shift linkage adjustment? Not sure I understand or perhaps I didn't explain properly.....it's like there's play in the drivetrain.......when you change up and let out the clutch there seems to be a distinct "clunk or movement" in the drivetrain as it take up the slack, so to speak.

hmmm, that doesn't sound right, you might want to bring it to the dealer and see if it's a premature worn flywheel.

I'd suggest having a boo at you engine mounts. When there's alot of movement of the entire driveline it suggests a failed rear motor mount or trans mount, most likely.

While buying a stiffer rear motor mount would help with some of the drivetrain sloppyness, it does not help with shortening shift throws like the TWM or our SSP is designed to do.

If you're looking for shorter shifts without hurting your wallet, a short shift plate is the way to go. We have a few local customers running our SSP with the TWM console shifter and noticed the greatest improvement once our SSP was installed. I have personally driven an 07 MS6 with a TWM shifter and our SSP installed; shifts were very short and precise, couldn't ask for anything more! A shift plate will also save you time on installation; our SSP takes about 10 minutes to install for even the most tool-unfriendly person due to the clear and concise instructions included.

Back to what the OP posted, if you're hearing a clunking sound when shifting gears, it would be a good idea to have the rear motor mount, as well as the other two motor mounted, checked for bad bushings. Since your car has low mileage, it should still be covered under warranty, but as we all know with these cars, we are at the mercy of the dealer regarding whether or not they want to do warranty work.

Hope this helps! Let me know if there are any further questions.
