Twiggy Sticks Install, tuning and results thread

big props to ya
nice power for a 2.0L turbo

only bad thing is you keep getting a bigger turbo
so we can't tell what's turbocharger and what's camshafts making the power
don't mean to sound ass-y

you're making more go then i am right now

no problemo..
FYI, the to4e i'm using now has 0.50ar compressor with 0.86ar exhaust. whereas the gt30r is 0.60ar compressir with ..damn i forgot, but smaller then 0.86ar. The gt30r is better than my current china made turbo. if i where to use gt30r, i think the power will be different (higher).

i think the cam did something..how much, i don't know. if i have time and energy, i'll swap to the stock cam, and do a few dyno runs.

very good question...
the readout from the dyno machine is in bhp. they use DASTEK dynamometers. i believe its wheel horsepower, since wheels were on the roller, unless there is a constant they multiply to get engine horsepower.

Saw a dyno where they calculated bhp during the dyno run down (how long it takes or something) after the power run. LW, you might have seen it on Top Gear earlier this year?

yeah, they let the car decelerate by itself and use the drag generated by the car on the rollers determine BHP...not sure how accurate this is though.....

the cam gears where apperrently set to slightly advance, therefore the power kicked in late. How many degree advance...ehmmmm. i have to check tomorrow. I want to cut an openning to the valve cover so that the cam gears can be set without removing the cover.

i ran at 1 bar boost max , that's about 14.5 psi.
305 bhp @ 6500
356 nm torque @ 5000 rpm

the power was going up still at rev cut (7000 rpm). I think it can go a few more ponies if i were to extend the rev cut. but i want to play safe.

Next, i'd like to shift the power band to lower RPM. The tuner told me to retard the cam gears .

Here are some dyno runs i did over the past few years.
Dyno graph on twiggy was reproduced on excel using raw data.

by the way, how do you post picture directly on this page?

Thats some good news!

to insert an image, Upload the pic in your control panel and then do insert image and copy hyperlink

Any tips from the shop after that marathon install? Did they re-shim? Did they measure or record your lash measurements?

lash for each valve was measured. but i ddid not keep it. no shim, only lash was out by 0.01mm.

i did some tweaking to the camgears. I found that with intake cam at 0 degree and exhaust at 3 degree retard , the response is better. the power kick in earlier in 4k . The same duty cycle on the wastegate i set previously for 1 bar of boost , it went up to 1.4bar. I have not dyno it yet. But i think, the peak power have shifted to about 6K.

here is the pic of the cam gear at 3 degree retard.

Do shims need to be installed with these cams? If not could this cause a 0300 code(multi missfire?)

buddy...come on
read the posts in this thread

(do you have a set...?)
shims have been discused to death already

Ok, Cool. Thanks for the heads up.
Were you having issues after the cams were installed?

yes and no...i didn't think it was the cams...i snapped a vacuum line off the sensor that sits between the MAF and throttle body and did some engineering on it...so i thought it was throwing a code due to that...but apparently not! i really didn't drive the car much...shortly after the install, i bought the msp...and i carpooled with the wife to work...so it was only driven maybe once a week...she drove it for a while...but again, i thought it was that broken nipple on that sensor.

i just installed my cams on the weekend... great power after 3500.... I did notice that there's a kind of perkalator sound coming from the engine.... lol
is that normal, maybe i tightened my belts to tight or is it the cams

from the engine?
you should have a bumbly lopey idle note coming out of your exhaust pipe....and if you have CAI you may hear a slurping through the intake....

Did you DIY or have a shop do it?
Any shims added? Lash measurements?
