Tustin Mazda Buy-Back Invitation

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

I got an interesting letter from my dealership and it is paraphrased as follows:

=====
Tustin Mazda is among the top pre-owned Mazda sales dealers in the country and we are in desperate need to acquire specific Mazda pre-owned vehicles by 12/31/07 to achieve Mazda's Pre-owned Vehicle Sales Crown. You have been identified as an owner of one of these vehicles and our new car managers have been authorized to buy back your current vehicle at above market prices.

We would like to exchange your 2007 MAZDA CX-7 for any new 2008 Mazda. With factory incentives and high trade-in values, we feel confident that you can make this exchange with little or no money down and with a monthly payment that fits your budget.

Just for coming in, receive a free Las Vegas vacation voucher. 3-day/2-night accomodations for two and $500 in chips, meals, and show tickets. $800 Value.
=====

I called the dealership and the lady couldn't give me any more details. She just told me that the letter is my invitation and that my CX-7 will be evaluated/appraised by a sales person. There's nothing wrong with my car save for a few scratches on the outside, but I wonder if I should trade it in for a 2008 CX-7. Let's say I have $15,000 worth of payments left on my car. If I do the trade-in, does that mean that I would have the same balance on the new 2008 model? Please share your thoughts or experiences.

bait and switch. No matter what they say, the car's depreciation value will eat you alive and I will bet you will pay more.

I be very Leary on this. I guess if you have allot of time to waste. Take someone with you and your spare set of keys so you can leave if the ones you give them get "lost" I guess I'm always skeptical of anything too good to be true offer.

Don't waste your time. I've recieved this letter before from my previous 2 cars I purchased. It's a huge scam and a lie. I would call the dealership and complain.

i service my msp at tustin mazda and i get those all the time probably 5 or 6 a year i went in one time and they offered my 12k for the msp which wasn't too bad but still a rip off they are on my top list of socal stealerships

(glare) a ploy, tactic, devised and contrived move to get you in the showroom!

Unless you feel the ability to run on 87 will save you so many thousands in the long run I would stick with your 07, they just want to move some CX-7's for the new year sales event i'm sure.

they said your monthly payment will be about the same - your loan term may be extended by 2+ years for all you know

As a dealership salesperson : This is a ploy (as others have said).

its a way to generate repeat/referral business into the dealership. Their goal was to increase end of year business.

and no - you will not end up with a balance of 15k on a new 2008 CX-7. Unless a) you put a ton of money down - or b) you purchased a cheaper vehicle model (IE Mazda 3). Your balance would be new vehicle amount minus the trade in value (current vehicle's market value) added to the trade-in vehicle's payoff. For instance (completely theoretical numbers):

2008 CX-7 GT $29,000
Trade in value -16,000
adjusted amount$13,000
payoff (tradin) +17,000
Financed amount = $30,000 (not including tax,tags,doc fee)

Stay with what you have, I dont know the details of your purchase but most consumers are not in positive equity until about the 4th year (on a 60 month term) which means generally speaking - you owe more than the vehicle is worth (for trade in).

yeah they didnt say anything about financing. depending on money down, they might try to stretch you from 60-72months.

Not that everyone else hasn't labeled this one for what it is, I do know that our dealership does these sort of promotions. In fact the dealership you are talking about is owned (at least partially) by the same person as the one where I work in Tulsa, OK. I'll bet our marketing personnel has a hand in that.

From what I hear, it's a promotion that gets people in the door. However, I know that our store does not blatantly rip off the consumer. We have a lot of repeat business and happy customers.

Anyway, keep your '07, there's no reason to trade in a year old car if you are happy with it. If you wanted to upgrade to a CX-9 , then maybe you'd consider it, but you'd also lose some money.

So there you go bro. That's why I love to belong in this forum. We're all family here. Everyone's protecting each other. And besides, there's really no difference with the 07 and 08 models.
