Here is a video how the variable flow, back draft damper, adjusts to the engine demand.
I videoed this on my 5.9 Cummins turbo. It's much easier to video the damper vs on the CX 5.
I've adjusted the air filter box inlet so that the damper begins to open at 5 psi. At 7 psi of boost it is half open. I was power braking to get this video and didn't want to put more than 7 psi pressure on the transmission but you can see how it adjust flow based on demand.
As side, my 5.9 Cummins will produce 32 psi boost in stock trim. The Mazda makes less than half the boost. I believe the Mazda opens sooner based on my logs. It would be a fun chassis dyno session to video when the damper opens and adjust the inlet flow if needed.
