Turn off Alarm, 96 Protege?

I disconnected the battery to reset the ECM for smog testing. When I reconnected the battery, I 'discovered' the alarm system (as did everyone in my neighborhood).

I have a remote, but it's dead. I can't drive to the store to get a battery, because the car won't start.

Is there a way to turn off the alarm? I do have the key.

It turns out it was an aftermarket alarm (but probably installed by the dealer). The immediate fix for the alarm was to put the key in the 'on' position, and toggle the 'valet' switch. The switch was a very small toggle, and installed in the plastic kick plate on the left side of the driver's side footwell. This disables the alarm, and causes the light to glow red constantly. Since my car won't pass smog, and electrical loads may effect the smog computer, and the alarm doesn't actually function, I've surgically removed it. I was very impressed with the original install, and I'm glad to have the thing out.

Unfortunately, the car still won't pass a smog check. Sigh.
