the reason why turbocharged engines don't necessarily obey the same rules as NA engines when it comes to intake temp is because our intake air gets compressed by the turbo to 15psi, which increases the air temp to ~200F before it's cooled down again by the intercooler, which uses ambient air to do this. now, the intake temp will technically have an effect, but this effect will be greatly diminished after the pressurization and then cooling. so, the difference in air temp between a SRI and CAI is not as apparent as the measured temp at the intake filter.
another important thing to remember is that the difference in air temp after the car gets moving is negligible between the CAI and the SRI. you will only heat soak when stopped at a light for a while or stuck in traffic. in the end, turbocharged cars don't have as clear cut a choice between CAIs and SRIs as NA cars.
when i sat down to make my choice between a CAI and SRI, i put ease of maintenance and install at the top of my list of things to consider. i chose my cobb SRI based on the knowledge that it would have similar performance in most situations to a CAI while being a hell of a lot easier to install and maintain (filter cleaning/replacement).
