TurboXS hybrid valve installed...questions

Anyone still have this on their car? If so, what are your reviews now that you've had them for awhile?

i still have mine. works just as it did when first installed. holds boost fine, no leaking; boost logs are the same from about two weeks after i installed it to now.

i did take it apart about a week ago and cleaned the inside, the spring, the washers and the piston. took about 2 minutes. i also applied a very very light coating of silicone grease, very high quality grease, to the piston.

how many washers? i'm running stock and using 4 per some threads but some run 2.

I just got mine yesterday and will install it this weekend. I opened it up to put the washers in but I have one small question. The washers have a smooth side and a flat, rough side (which I'm assuming is the bottom). Does it matter which side goes in first? I've never had any experiences with this, so I just want to be safe.

nope, doesn't matter.

running 2 washers with a sri installed, peaks at 18-19 and holds at 16(5th&6th gear)

im running 2 as well with cobb sri,cp-e fmic, turbo xs dp/rp,rpmc turbo inlet. i was peeking at 22 but after the fmic i started to peek at 18-19

Ok so I've been driving around with it for a little over a week now and I'm not sure if I like it yet. The way the car drives has definitely changed. It feels like at lower RPMs, the car has loss some of it's power. It seems to take a bit longer to accelerate. Maybe I messed up the install somehow? I'm currently running with 4 washers with a COBB SRI. Also, I can't hear the BoV while driving. If I was revving at neutral, then I can hear it a little bit. But when I'm driving, all I can hear is the turbo spooling up and that's it.

hmm...that seems odd. you should DEF hear it anytime you let off, but def if are driving it and as the revs climb you let off...pSSSSHHHt

i'd just go over the installation again, make sure you have a good seal between the valve and the two bolt flange, make sure all tubes are tight, etc.

do you have anyway to monitor boost pressure, or log it, like a dash hawk?

No, unfortunately I don't have anything to monitor the boost. What do you mean when you said to make sure I have a good seal between the 2 bolt flange and the valve? Should I check and see if the 2 bolts are tight? Did I have to do anything special before I attached the BoV? All I did was line it up and then screw the 2 bolts in.

yeah, that's all you had to do, nothing special.

dang, a dash hawk would help you out so much here. it would literally tell you if you are having an issue or not.

if you truly feel it's losing power, then i'd put the stocker back on. wait, before you do that...you should have someone blip the throttle up to like 3-4k and then let off while you watch the valve. you should be able to see the gold piston slide up in the silver body and hear it go PSSShhh.

it's pretty simple to install, so if you installed it right, and it's acting odd, then it might be a defective part, but i highly doubt it because they use precision CNC program and people running the program to cut those things.

odd, but good luck!

So I talked to a friend of mine, who owns a subie, and he told me that it's possible that I'm just not boosting. Apparently I drive too slow for the BoV to go off lol. Guess I'm just a turbo noob!

Hey guys,
I know this thread has not been active for a while, but I thought I could ask a quick question. I bought a Turbo XS hybrid valve about 2 years ago. It was the first mod that I put on the car. Since then I have added a CP-E CAI, CP-E Turbo inlet tube, and a Hypertech tune. I am using four washers in the hybrid valve. Would there be any reason to add or subtract any washers? The car seems to idle fine and run fine. What are your personal experiences or opinions on the setup? Thanks for your help. It's great to be a part of the MAZDASPEED family.

if it's working fine then don't mess with it.. but just check to make sure with the 4 washers it's not going to make it to hard to vent, otherwise you'll get bucking when you let off the gas at mid throttle in low gear.

Ok cool. Thanks for the tip. I will definitely be looking for anything weird over the next couple weeks. I might even try one more washer just to see what difference it makes.
