turboed 8

whats up guys i have turboed my 8 and have found it very hard to hook up. I was wondering what you guys think the best lsd would be for the strip and still be good on the street, plus if there is any sites i can go to for suspension parts to help with wheel hop? thanks

first off, did you install a greddy kit, if so did you do the change the wastegate vacumme line on the kit? otherwise your car is trying to make boost all the time.....that would make it harder to launch.

2nd what EMS are you running on?

the stock LSD is very good, there is nothing on the market sold as a 'direct drop in'...you might be able to modify it and swap in an FD....but why waste your time....?

what size tires are you running? get sticky/wide tires and wheels.

how are you 'launching' the car.....also if you putting a lot of power down....get ready to brake a lot of drive train parts..........the stock trany/diff hold up ok to around 300whp with 'normal' driving.....but drag racing will bring that down fast....esp if your making more power.

launch at peak TQ (from a dyno graph) and slip the clutch enough to get the car out of the hole while feathering the throtle

i did install the greddy kit, i do not know if they changed anything with the wastegate. Im only running with the e-manage piggyback. I know i need drag radials, i am saving up some money to get them and 17" rims. The best times i have gotten were from launching at 3,500 but i am wanting to get rid of the wheel hop. I kow when i get tires that will take care of some of it and i will have better 60 foot times. Thanks for the help. If you know of any springs that will help thanks

to fix you wheel hop get new bushing for the suspension and trany/engine/diff, also take off the rear sway bar....that will help to a point...but any time you have a IRS (independent rear suspension)...wheel hop can be a major problem.

A drag-suspension will also help.

If you get drag radials and are making decent power with the kit, you will break diffs, axles, tranys...ect......if they are stock and you get the car to hook.

ditch the emanage, it will never give you enough control to get good power and relability out of the motor.

2nd read thru the thread on rx8 club and do all the little 'changes' to the greddy kit, it will help with power, driveability (sp) and relability

thanks man for your help. one more question though is there a stiffer spring out that will not change ride height? where i live i can not afford to lower the car anymore than the bodykit already does

boostn8, what are your 1/4 ET's wit the GReddy kit? I'm just gettin ready to buy one as soon as I sell some other items.

I'm waiting for a supercharger to be released. I know there is one close to being ready. If I can find the link, Iwill post it.

you can get coil overs and keep the car at the same ride height but take advantage of a stiffer spring....although for max traction in a straight line...you want a softer spring at the rear, so the car can transfer more weight to the back.

im hitting mid 13's- low 13's at about 10o-105mph. you have to remember though im running street tires and have bad wheel hop off the line. If i were you i would go with the greddy over a supercharger. It looks like all the supercharger kits are about 6-8000 vs the 4000 for the greddy kit. I bought mine off e-bay brand new in box for 2000 and with the bov turbo timer boost controller and install i spent about 4000. The drivetrain only hold about 300whp from what i understand and the kit will give you 300whp so it is everything you need and is more reliable if you do the 3 steps to fix the kit properly. you can read about them on rx8club under major horspower. this is all i have learned in the past week so i would ask a couple more before making final decision. good luck with either

the problem with the greddy kit is not that it cant make good power (there are cars making 330whp with it) but that it makes peak power at aroun 7k rpm....and you have a 9500rpm redline......so your gearning is all screwed up for the power band the greddy kit has....

the supercharger kits I have seen can make similar power, but make it all the wya to redline....

also for a 100-105 mph trap.....that shows you have around 250 horepower at the wheel.....

trap speed isnt effected by wheel hop/bad launch like ETs are.

well i had 275 at the wheels then but the engine went when the oil pressure sending unit went bad. I had the engine rebuilt and it is alot faster then it was before it went. So now im guessing i have about 300 at the wheels now, maybe even more. the trap speed is effected by the launch, cause if you cant put power to the ground in first then you have to shift to second and start out slower.

we carry a growing assortment of rx8 parts at our web site

i will try and find my dyno sheet but i was making 275 at the wheels. im not sure what dyno it was.

who tuned the kit?

the kit only makes around 240whp out of the box

eric at auto exotica or passen motorsports. same place two names. i did find my dyno sheet. it was a dynojet and i had 258 whp and 180 torque thats with running stock cat and clutch. Im getting ready to put a test pipe on and maybe upgrade to a 3 inch exhaust

the big problem with running no cat and a big exhaust (like 3" turbo back) on the greddy kit is that the turbo already cant flow enough air to make power over about 7k rpm, and with reduced back pressure the turbo tends to spike and creep a lot....just something to keep in mind.

Greddy and HKS currently have an 80mm (about 3.1") cat back, so if you ran a 3" test pipe it would be good.

I belive the JIC titanium is also 80mm

Niceee. even thou when i was in San Juan, it didnt look like many places to kick off a good race, but hey its a beautiful island, and some sweet cars are hooked up down there. Great videos
