According to these news mazda is working on the next mazdaspeed that could be a turbocharged skyactiv G engine pushing 295hp and AWD...

I wonder if its a new skyactiv engine or just added modded parts to the current 2.0 or 2.5
And if so... If these could eventually be fitted to a CX5 if someone was so inclined.

Definitely some change in internals. Can't see our compression ratio sitting too well with FI.

None the less, a FI SkyA-G is plausible because the CX-9 is due for replacement. Mazda has no intentions of building a 6 cylinder.

Hopefully they will change the name to either "Mazda speed3", "Mazda MS3" or "MPS" like in Europe and not a "Mazda Mazdaspeed 3".
Give it a name that is specific to the model like BMW, Audi, VW and Subaru with their (M3, S4, GTI, STI) that will make it stand out and be noticed.

I'm curious to see if they will also use a different awd system or still the strongly fwd biased with the rear wheel only coming in on demand.

It would be awesome to have an awd system that lets the driver decide (gravel, snow,wet,dry...like subaru/mitsubishi).
Plus being able to bypass it completely for track (say, put 100% of the power to the back wheels in race mode).
I know this will not happen, but damn it, it would be one hell of a system if it could.

They are saying its going to be a 6 speed manual, but I think they should consider going 7 speeds, with this much power, I bet they could safely make a 7th speed for highway cruising and getting even better mileage (even if this means blocking boost in this gear). I say this because of the issues with previous speeds going boom when boosting in higher gears from low rpms.

This time around, I also think Mazda should consider offering an optional automatic with paddle shifters. this would give it more sales potential for non stick drivers, and maybe solidify the mazdaspeed3's place in the line up like the GTI has been for VW.

Turbo Skyactiv gasser, with paddle shifters, that sounds viable in North American market even with necessary extensive internal changes. Could get compared to some premium SUV offerings maybe...

The can just call it "MS" like SS

Yes, I also think it would be the best option for Mazda to shorten mazdaspeed to MS...
(also like Subaru does it Subaru Technical Institute). imagine saying I have a "Subaru impreza Subaru Technical institute" yeah that's a keeper. Or a "Dodge charger Street & racing technology 8"

I'm betting if it's true that you will not see AWD together with a manual. It's going to be AWD/Auto or FWD/6 speed Manual.

I'm betting it will be AWD/auto (well-equipped too), with a steep price tag to match, a pay to play option of sorts.

Name change? Not going to happen.

I know it won't, but that's too bad...
It was probably the single most annoying thing about owning my "Mazda mazdaspeed 3", explaining the name and why it was called this way... Mazda has to find a way to make its go fast models known properly like other brands do also the fact that mazda isn't even consistant with its own product having mazdaspeed used in America, but MPS in the rest of the world.

But naming aside... probably the most important thing if they want to be taken seriously is to always have a "mazdaspeed" model in the lineup. Don't skip years. And why Mazda keeps things so secret is beyond me... Look at VW to name one, they are the complete opposite of Mazda in that department, always feeding the news with information about the next Golf R and GTI... Instead, Mazda comes out with mazdaspeed models and barely advertises them when they do come out.

Making people aware of what is coming seems to me like a better strategy for sales, and makes people desire these cars and possibly wait for them. In the process, it would also help the mazda brand and give meaning the the "zoom zoom" slogan.

Gone are the days of the mythic RX7, and at this moment, the fastest car in mazda's new lineup is a toss between the MX-5 and the mazda 3 2.5 skyactiv. So this means Mazda is now the Japanese brand with the least zoom (as far as outright speed is concerned).

SOB. Of course this would come out after I bought mine already. haha. That's a nice looking mazda. I would def be interested in something like that.

Manual with AWD is not a problem. I'm driving stick with the 175hp diesel. It's even tuned to 219hp with no issues... yet....
