Turbo timer

I’m new and don't own a CX-7 "YET!!!(lol2)".

I'm new to the world of "turbo" charging. So reading and searching the "net" for information about the CX-7 I was wondering if something such as a "turbo timer" would be a good investment.

Not to add Horse Power but to safe guard the engine and provide longevity. My understanding of the CX-7 is that it run's slightly hot with under hood temp's being high. So driving the car in traffic on a commute to work and than turning it off once you’re at your destination might not be enough to allow the oil and turbo to cool down on a stock OEM set up.

The purpose of the "turbo-timer" from my understanding would be to allow the engine and cooling system to continue to run until the underhood temps are brought down to normal temps.

Has anyone installed one on the CX-7 or does the CX-7 already have something like this installed from the factory.

Thanks

In actuality, the purpose behind idling the car for a few minutes after driving is to cool the turbo down. This is usually only necessary if you just came off boost before you stopped. Driving normally down your neighborhood street on the way home will have the same cooling effect as idling in the driveway, so for most people a turbo timer is just a waste. It is a good investment for someone who, for whatever reason, is acclerating hard just before shutdown, which can cause oil to 'coke' in the turbo bearings, which is said to cause premature failure. The use of synthetic oil is another way to combat this. I'd say if you won't be pulling into your driveway straight from a racetrack, you shouldn't need a turbo timer. And if the circumstance presents itself where you were under boost shortly before you arrived at your destination, just let the car idle for a minute while you gather your stuff and unbuckle yourself. That should suffice.

+1. Needed ONLY if your not willing to let the engine idle for 30-60 seconds after a pretty hard run.
