Turbo Seal Issue

I have a 2007 with really low mileage on it 12,500. Just put a magnaflow catback on it a few weeks ago and within a week it started smoking at idle. Dealership said it needed a new turbo, but then Mazda had them change the oil to synthetic 5w40 and it stopped smoking (for now). So no new turbo, and I'm guessing the only reason it stopped smoking is because of the heavier grade oil. I'm expecting it to start smoking again sometime, but i'm considering changing it back to 5w30 and bringing it back when it smokes to get myself a new turbo (shady). You guys agree that the oil is just a band-aid till my warranty runs out (October)? or am I just being paranoid and thinkin the man is tryin to screw me.

steve, thanks for the link. very informative.

so now, to add to the reliabiltiy list: TT rear diff mount, OCC, 5w 40

i need more money :(

There's been rumor that Mazda issued a bulletin out regarding the MZR DISI motor, spec'ing it to 5w-40 oil from here on out. Also, the 2010 MS3 is requring 5w-40 oil. Anyone else notice a trend?

I do need to call my service manager and verify the rumor.
