so i recently found out that my turbo is leaking oil and needs to be either rebuilt or replaced. from what everyone has told me, rebuilding it might be even more than replacing it.

my question is what other turbo components should i replace along with the turbo?

or is it as simple as buying a new turbo and replacing it with the old one?

new to turbo so any suggestions are appreciated thank you

just the turbo itself is fine just make sure you buy it with a t25 flange

x2...it is much cheaper to buy another than to rebuild...and if you need another one, I have one for sale right now...$300 shipped...

rebuilding is $450-600 for a rotating assembly, plus labor, or do it yourself. when you do it that way, you will have what is in effect a brand new turbo.

used is $300-350, but its used. people have run into issues with used turbos when bought from less-than-reputable sellers. im selling one as well, though im looking for a little more $ since i can wait all day because i know the condition. scratch is a good seller too, but im getting tired of him post whoring in E/FI only when hes selling his stuff (a-HEM!)

I try not to...and at least this time I offered some advice as well...and I don't always post ***** my stuff...I very regularly post links to others items as well or even recomend sellers with lower prices than I would have...

Best bet though OP really is finding a turbo on here...the factory ones are insanely priced...the rebuild kit is quite a bit more and you would need to do it yourself...there are usually quite a few for sale on here...you can always upgrade to the GT28, but that requires a bit more $$$...

Lol...now when the final partout thread goes up, I may get banned for so much whorring of parts...haha...

Who told you it was leaking oil? Or how did you determine it? Are you sure it's not just the o-ring? If you've done your homework, my apologies, but just make sure you understand the problem before shelling out hundreds of dollars.

yeah just verify that is the problem so you wont just be throwing money cause these cars like to play tricks on you......

well I took the car to a local shop that has done some of my installs, and they told me that the turbo was leaking oil. ive also looked at it and see the oil all over the turbo.

how can i determine whether its the o-ring?

also the turbo is barely boosting and lags like crazy.

if it ends up being the turbo itself i will definitely be purchasing a used one from here, great prices.

these are your choices

I need a replacment turbo new or used gt25 or gt2860 looking to spend about $600 to $700 or less then that if at all possible any ideas?

check the marketplace. otherwise, you might be able to get a rebuilt and VSR balanced oil + water cooled journal bearing T25 for around there.

I've been out the Mazda game for quite some time now but please correct me if I'm wrong. When my factory turbo blew an oil seal on my old MSP turbo I contacted dozens of turbo shops in the So-cal area including Garrett whom at the time did not offer a rebuild cartridge kit for the GT2554R. From experiance, If you you decide to let someone rebuild it you might as well pay the extra cash to have it modified with bigger wheels and stronger 360 degree thrust washer and also make sure they properly balance it. That is very important for some turbo rebuild shops do not practice balancing. Most prefer to upgrade to the GT28RS "Disco Potato". You got plenty of options bro.

Also If the turbo is leaking oil I highly suggest removing both hot and cold intercooler pipes and inspecting everything including intercooler, BPV and throttle body for signs of internal oil saturation. This happened to me a while back and was not fun.
